Good morning guys how orient next well thank you very much they want to start with Doug morrow were discussing it today wanted to talk about some of the comments admitted Monday quarterback club and you've talked about. Culture here a long time and you mention the other day that you felt Doug Merlin has changed the culture of the organization first off what's different in the culture organization right. Now. Well Howard you know obviously anyone it's a reported team sport obviously understands that. You know cultures. A major staying in and no hole and each other accountable and quote from Rome. There is done in credible job over this parish here I think you need to reflect. In look back at some of the things that have happened over this parish year. Which are. Major danger Rangers you know we had a death of an owner in March. We had a team in transition. The entire year from an ownership standpoint. We also. Which gets lost him in the show full rid of a major renovation of the stadium. And our team was displays for up to four months and OTA's and mini camps. We had a prolonged training camp. Because of the renovations. We head of us had a sale of a of a franchise during the season which is unprecedented. And we had a historic snowstorm routine was displaced. Coach rose started on believable job lead in this franchise. Keeping everyone together and like I said hold people accountable. And to be in the position we are today is credited. I am okay having said all that why do you think he's been successful at that where previous coaches have failed to me because the culture. Has not been chain had not been changed around here for an extended period of time where did he succeed where other guys couldn't. Well I you know our that's a good question part you know something that we were looking for. When we went out on the coaching search show way back in now 2013. With body and in dog wearily and we were looking for strong dynamic leadership. And coach throne has brought that he's brought a level of consistency. He's brought a level a level of empowerment not going to assistant coaches but to leadership on this team. And like I said if you put the team sport at any level especially in college or or in the NFL. Our success comes when. You hold each other accountable and that's exactly what he's been able to do. Would this franchise and are really proud of the job he's done he's done a incredible job. Don't know if the owners have come to you and ask you about this I'm assuming they will at your end of season meeting. Is there are no question in your mind that the head coach will be back should be back utility owners that. Well no regrets the stuff that we go through at the end of the year with the ownership but there are burning minority topic. Russ I ask you this about this season a particular not just that you hired Doug morrow because as you know I I watched. A culture change also at Syracuse I believe he has changed the culture into it replaces but even specifically this year. I think there's a difference between training camp to now when I walk in the locker room the interaction amongst players the interaction amongst the coaching staff and the accountability factor have you seen a change just in the last let's say. Four months from pre season till now. You know I pick ourselves you know it you know that Syracuse when he when he took that program or was probably the worst program in division one it was close if not for jurors it was damn close in relative that you know what he did there in turn that. Program around was incredible. And the same thing you know we had. That was it as tough of an off season as you can deal with in the National Football League with a all the elements have been variables I mentioned earlier. And you know that was a big part are also the renovation would the Arab and that of the locker room setup with our player lounge inside guys are around. They're not running now the building because of the facility be in. Not up to par. In in just the environment that coach preaches and in the togetherness. And the leadership on this team I think it's it's all come together and Inoa and it's a great partnership. Between a coach Ronan dog well they've done a hell of a job both of them. Russ I think it's the topic because I think people look at your team and say it's a very talented roster. The fact I think and maybe you'd agree or disagree I don't know that is the most talented roster that's been around at least since you've been here. And they think about the offense which is really. Bad and they think about the left guard spot which was really kind of bungled until her Brooklyn in there. And I think about what the heck happened with Mike Williams and why wasn't a factor. And think about him not knowing Jerry Hughes one of your best players wasn't on the field in Denver. And think about not going forward on fourth down and critical games you have an elite defense that can cover for you if you don't make it on fourth down play the that's why it's a topic. Well I don't they should be powered and you know and I also look they're from the standpoint of you know were. You know obviously going through the course of the season there's things you look back at you might think differently on. But you know like they're says this is a team environment over here. And coach. You know continues to have great job leading our our franchise and you know I. I think we should be talking about the fact there were 86 implant meaningful games in December. Instead of the topic to insure that for some reason you guys keep open up. Well for some reason because your fans actually care about it rust there we're head coach. Well you know Howard you know there. That's stood at some sort for another day review and me. Yep but I did not Russ and tell your fans care about it to nick hall and talk to us about issues that they they're concerned about this team and their plan of your fans that have questions about your head coach so that's why the topic. Turn off yeah I will agree to disagree on your season at 86. Isn't a success. Regardless of what happens in the last few games do you think with all the strides have been made on defense. The meaningful games the wins over ten win teams a winning home record are you and a successful season right now regardless of the last two games in your opinion. Well through fourteen games you know we feel good about where we are you look back didn't mean you look at some games that community which had back but then you look at some dams and make him a fourth and eighteen and Evan game winning pass at the end against. Minnesota so. You know you can play the what if game all the time me you know obviously that's something that. You know when you look back of the season and in in Indio look at you know couple of those games that you wish they had back for sure but. You know the focus right now is going wanna know this week implant in Oakland team that's been very good at home. And a team that's improved each and every week so you know we know we have a big challenge our hands going across country and implant them in a very tough environment. Your defense has been elite this season Newton. And it was a great hire bringing in Jim Schwartz after Mike Patton left are you worried about Jim Schwartz getting job offers. You know coach Schwartz is done an excellent job and I sure you know you've you've talked about that as well. As well as coach Patton. You know and again. That goes back to you know Doug Carter in two coaches that in you know our burden anyone in this business that. That he had not worked would be for. So you know he looked at the body of work and what. What of course Schwartz is done defensively not only is. Head coach would also is DC when he was in Tennessee a great defense is there and he's got a really strong staff. You know pepper Johnson up front and in Fred pewter common over from Minnesota and in the great work that Donnie Anders is done in the back and it really says a about a lot about that whole coaching staff and our guys you know are obviously it helped. It it all starts. With the players and and they bought into what coach and and coach pat beforehand or was working on so. We're really excited about their unit because that's a young unit that's going to be together for a long time. Russ Brandon with a sunny AT&T hotline rust what are the rules. With a coach and an assistant coach if a team calls you in the offseason. And they are interested in talking to Jim Schwartz you have to give commissioner can you say basically we like this guy's not going anywhere and I permission. Well I know part of that is you know with the the way and NFL works of its head coaching job you have to grant opportunities for your coach speak. Not latter although it has to be in a promotion that correct. Is is there anyway you could kind of go to the guerrillas and say hey and can you give Jim Schwartz a really big pay raise. Well you know obviously you know better when our or lose their work in this league you wanna get to the ultimate spot. And anyone that is in coaching and look this borders have been head coach so you know what we'll cross those bridges when we have to do. I know our sole focus on the last two weeks. While speaking of that you go to Oakland this week but Saturday night ever just go please can somebody call Stevie Johnson and say you know we could use a little help here because we need to be TBA Dalai interest and are you guys can be in that game Saturday night while were out there out west. Doctoral urban I'm so that's their right. Eight in it and I guess the big picture is our players aware of it is that you don't they know it has to be done and coaches we'll deal cliche is one game at time we can only worry about ourselves but. Obviously everybody's aware of what the situations. You know I sell I think they're one's aware but there are no one talks about it and I and I think again. But it comes down to you know being in the team meeting in in listened to coach and what he preaches. Each and every day about staying focused and you know stand in the prism and and understand and that it doesn't matter if we don't take care of our own business. Obviously we're great win on Sunday it means nothing if we don't take care of business on Sunday out all four. Russ what you do and other games are going on you're not play and I wanna bring up the day you guys played Denver robbers who was a late game. So I'm on the air 1 o'clock we're getting indie Cleveland game back here on TV. And I am literally doing the pregame showing yelling at Andrew Luck when he throws a pick six and watching hey what are the ravens doing what's happening here. What's it like for you when you're not playing and you're trying to keep track of the out of town scoreboard you're gonna be gone through that again Saturday night and then I assume at the stadium Sunday at one. It's painful power you know it's funny there's you know you try not to look but you know you're looking at your phone and I primenews. How do you try to me how did you refresh. Every five seconds I'm doing the same thing and I you know I'm a commanded I've you know it's almost as. You don't want you watching Notre Dame in the pit near sonic in you know and interest open and Brandon death and you know but hey you know what. And that's where I was to two earlier Howard. You know no matter. What the focus is the fact there were having this conversation on December what is it seventeenth. Is we're we're looking to go is an organization and and hopefully sustain for many years to come there are reports are involved in league meetings represented the bills there are reports that the league might consider expanding the playoffs and going to fourteen teams perhaps this is next season what would you print Indian embassy right now if there was an extra bit in the AFC it be great yeah right now I'd love it. I know I think we all would you know obviously. When you look at the NFL it's very difficult to make the playoffs. You know some weeks I don't know are you don't make the playoffs. So you know from our standpoint you know will take a look at it and go through from all the work that the league presents us and provides us to make an informed decision but. Are you terriers were sit here right now I'd love to have that seventh playoff spot. The last ask about is your quarterback play let's talk about Kyle Orton really good start first four games. Very good it is tailed off significantly since then so give me your assessment of Morton and his nine game body of work. But I you know there's really more questions for coach and in dog you know obviously you know Kyle's come in here and he's provided great. Leadership. And as brought a lot to the position you know obvious you know when when you look at what he's. What he's done from a leadership standpoint I think it has a lot to say your world we are right now. You know he didn't have training camp we didn't have OTAs. He. He he is I think are talking about before he reminds me a lot of of Bledsoe and some of the vets that we've had been here are just how we approaches the young guys in the in the accountability factor that he's brought in. You know when you look at it from you know over the last two years. You last year you know we start we had three quarterbacks ahead one collective game in the NFL. Plan forests the entire season you know based on Kevin Cobbs injuries so. You know Kyle's come in he's brought stability. In the in the main thing is he's brought leadership and and he has kept us together in tight spots. You know much like he did last week. From the organization standpoint rust with that position you went into the year. Not sure which had you know hoping EJ would would make some strides and be better in year two and it didn't work out. And and then you turn to Kyle Orton as you sit with two games left in the season some good some not so good. With with Orton and EJ was benched. Where are you better off are you not sure where you're at compare Iraq now with the quarterback spot as opposed to where you were going into the season. Well I think again you know not to yet. Play it off but I think that's more of you are caught a dog where -- conversation when they go through there assessment evaluations at the end of the year. To see how the pert Russians have been made. They're not only on the field and in what you know we see in our fancy. But what's been done in the classroom what's been done you know in the practice sessions and how they feel that. You know position is maturing. You know wolf will do all those in the very way issuance at the end of the year quote Irish coach where coach and where Elliott in the whole scouting staff this week. Head into a very busy offseason. You TJ still in the plans. Yeah I mean Vijay. You know is obviously brought in here to. Make an impact and you know the plan all along was for him due to develop and the obviously their plan was a little bit way late last year with with the injuries. But at the end of the day you know that again those are things that and discussions that went topics that will be discussed in the offseason but absolutely. I Russ good luck on Sunday thanks as always for the time our guys have a great holiday you get a tank you built president Russ Brandon joining us on the AT&T hotline and brought you by northwest savings bank it's time to make the switch to.
