There was more of a time consuming and little bit of an aggravated process that rehab doesn't really give you a lot of feedback right away at least I did the more specific type stuff so it took a little bit ball longer than president hoped for but you know feeling good now and then that's all matters. Welcome back hockey hotline great to be get caught up our guest here special guest last second guessed. Very grateful to have you on the show here are you enjoying your media experience Donald Jones. Menace is different and I've been a player for so long and I wasn't a guy who didn't like the media but. Yeah yeah we none of us like the media we are all again you yeah it is kind of like you gotta be careful with the media has somehow wasn't as an out of the the media you know it was like and now I'm I'm in these these press conferences sitting on the other side and. Questions those are your players like former teammates and stuff and it's the other busting your stone age don't talk to him and he's a neat idea guys there for me because. Like guys that patty collaborating guys that I'd walked in the room when I started doing this a big smile on my face just happy to be back to arc and great to see you guys that you you know I don't like each. Leave how williams' first one day you oh. Outlined his players went over to mediate had a lot to got a lot of them he said the state we get her hair cut at the same place he was walking out I was introduced to when the girls that. I'll introduce radio and I've WGR goes stopped. The article that undock on a but anyway is. I said don't Morrie guy items in all. Please Ortiz did it right reform we started to warn all other players Geist and and I'd be he's media he has lots of these media. Obviously you're enjoying it listen I wanna ask you here I just lark by a get my development water ball and you're sitting in their talk in order to our new boss. And I want to ask you about how the media transition is over but we are talking about Tim Tebow to start the show and I was asking about Tim Tebow last if you played multiple sports and you what your answer was. My death. Aptly football basketball baseball and track our Russell added everything. And then once I got older I just played football and baseball in high school and then. Once I finish playing football I had kidney transplant I played baseball likely. Independently based on managers in some pages so. I did my thing. I was with Tebow in New England movement but those who hate if anything about doing I was with him out with the patriots and Justin added when he came to playing quarterback. He didn't you know but he's dependent. So I was CY though he's an athlete like he's deathly an athlete he's gonna compete he brings leaves it to a team. So. He played baseball he was good that you know do I think he can make the growth. I don't know about I don't know Major League amaze me down no single way to avoid Tripoli I mean who knows pressures that. Will he want to do that horse will you wanna sit down there in them in the minors and Mike work you way you know and I think a lot of I mean he's making money right now he would need to sign a deal is deal today or yesterday when both days. He's like signing he's doing baseball cards and bats and everything so he's making money off of this though. You gotta get atone for that. We talk regularly on this show about the importance. Of multi sport athletes and and hockey players in the age what age for you was aware you had to separate and say OK now I'm a football where. Or now I'm a baseball player or was there a point where you had to make that decision. It wasn't a Pallet aptly multiple sports although it dries school. Through my senior high school and when I got to college it was like a camera focused on. On football and that's going to be it for me and then I didn't play baseball again until I retire from them though. You know and then I led the league in home runs in an alternate stuff you know but I think the important study it we look at these kids there's so many kids now who were like. Young kids and they're like focusing on one sport I don't really understand that you not to like as I have a young son must finish sixth. He's gonna play everything he wants to play an exhibit great. I don't feel like you should limit yourself to one sport you let it might be keyed in Julius so don't say oh I just wanna play once where you're limiting me you don't know what it's dolls and now's the parents. And if you said it really is this if that's a whole issue that we're talking about that says when we talked to vote you know. These these kids you think that they want to go to the ranked. Wanna go to the rink in the middle of July rate with that at all they wanna be outside they wanna go swimming they wanna play with their friends like G. I mean I this is this is. You know when we're talking about things need to change. It is passed it starts with parents starts and ends with the Paris while it isn't it about lake. Your purpose for starting to play I mean it's hard when. It starts there Craig you're absolutely right because it it it doesn't require. The hours and hours and hours and hours and hours of the one particular sport that everybody thinks it does mean Patrick Kane. Might be the worst thing to ever happen. To minor hockey here in buffalo but because everybody thinks that that's how you have to make it. And how he make it harder I was telling you 377. Days a year on the ice whether we agree with bitter disagreement that the guys are free and Hart trophy winner. What you don't. You don't have to aspire to be that you don't have to do with act abuse that I mean. You you can be great playing so many other things you might idol or something else all right real loud but there's also ten and a half million dollars the reasons why everybody is chasing what Patrick Kane did people look at Patrick Kane. He is not a big player he's not a physical player he is one of the most if not the most skilled players in the National Hockey League. And he spent more time on the ice as a kid. To hone his skills. Than anybody of the age group. Now look at it like this the you have. Guys who were people who are good in a certain sports who can be great in that sport but then you have other people were like at. Athletes who can do everything right so I think it does start with the parents and I think that the parents have let their children do. What is it they wanna do. And then let them find what they're pass and it's like that's how I feel I let ditched your child find what his or her passion is don't just say. You're good in this sport we're gonna keep doing this sport you do when traveling Leach into an age you and all types of stuff just in one sport and I'll let that kid. The king it. You know that's how I feel about the. I mean you you talk about that I mean does doesn't even have to be about sports I mean how only public utilizing. And ability and talent I mean it's not just sports we are sports show we are athletes and I look back and I think rip what did you do when you first tired what does a bursting new book first two things you bought when he retired. Come on you don't remember you called me I nearly guess that I used it yet that that that that by two guitars. That is an and now you're going on tour with. Somebody IA and love I love music way more than Aoki speak to you go. And I knew I wish I shouldn't be sadness by I wish I was with The Backstreet Boys. You do have a boy band looked like elegant U resolute refusal aged. Boy bit and do what you look like a washed up boy number I don't even output guiding what you could have been potentially New Kids On The Block I don't have to be the front guy LB guy in the back what is going to argue the move seen anything like it would like to open this year. And everything but ultimately mean Alberta. Don't know. The title and had to go to two more bugs here this is as the way Amaral and aren't. Where we all I think you let have to let that's how do they wanted to. You know don't force the problem is a lot of these parents are leaving their dreams than did children. You know and so you get these parents like heart on the case because they never achieve their dreams in miracles of whatever it is whether it's sports the weapons computers whatever they thought it like you know you're gonna do this mean kid ends up not liking this sport it can be good. But they end up not liking it because you. Force just out to play this sport forever you know. Speaking of forcing a child plays sport I wanna force rip to learn more about football. And you know were hockey guys like you know talk about hockey. No I'm not too much but bush do you like the watches I will feel like I don't know I love watching football out. It is I don't we all I want. Is that it but I think we just. We didn't have the chance that learn everything about it but. The bills are going to training camp right now and I wanna talk more about all this other stuff too and and the parents who we give pairs well with a break here for this act into. The bills are there suffered some injuries right now and remember having a discussion yesterday up out. Pre season. Where do you stand on pre season games. You know or. Even contact in training camp and all that stuff because the thirteen now all the sports to business to mega business and you know you lose that one star player. It's not going to affect your revenues does TV contracts cover all that stuff but then it comes down to winning right. So. Aren't we we had this topic on so the other day. And my thought process is that they need to scrap these last two receiving games you need at least two games so that you can get into the feel playing a game is wanting to practice. But indicated today feeling of playing a game in game ski you need that right so I think you can have two preceding games but the need to add. Two teams or something like that to the playoffs. Mean it's opera revenue if you add more teams in the playoffs my extra wild card game you gonna make that revenue up more revenue from that in a preceding game right. So scrap these pre season games these last two. And turn it turn that into extra playoff but I comes does that come down to. And it's NFL PA and O'Dell is the only where you were you play Iraq. I was not a player rep or are player rep was George Wilson time. Tyson talked to him a lot I was very interested in contracts and how they were. The PC BA itself than what was in that context of Georgia by one of the best player reps from. When I heard and he he taught me a lot about how to work the men. When they settled on the CVA. And I started to re a little bit now and not really paid fits into it. It's like we we got a bad deal as players who really who got a horrible deal and so they gave they gave Rodriguez though weak too much power so now you're seeing. Him doing what to do you know and at that at dinner today the NFL has and I think they know. That they can do them like they know they can locked out become locked out. The league they're billionaires owners are billionaires like the players majority of the players don't make millions of dollars. And so we don't like guys don't have the money to be able to do is sit and not have income coming in you know also. I always wondered how that worked like I'm watching these hard knocks and she Geico mania it's cotton in the coach says. You know worry and you were wary eye on what these what are these guys do a guy that a guy that. There's no minor league there's an FL Europe and there's some like arena leagues and stuff like. But what are these guys do in between the the one guy says our nominee give it another crack next I was watching it last time we get another crack next hearings he should get. Where do you go a year it would right what Heller guys doing so a lot of I mean you have some guys who want to. And the Canadian League. But the Canadian League is now there's 1012 games into this season. TK go up there in the middle of the season and and how to make it seems as if they won't work like that so. A lot of guys will just stick around and trained in and do not the may get like these these terrible jobs and trying. And do nothing in and wait until the next season and they'll do that for a couple of years and you have so many guys they don't know enough to do I mean you've been playing this sport your entire life. And everything that you do your time you're at your schedule everything is made for you as you go from high school and college. And now you gave in to this the pros you know making which as you dream you never thought about anything else. And it's like what do I do now. I'm gonna try out again next year in and again next year and I think I've seen so many guys try to stick around the league for years much of that assistant I'll hit it really is. Man is all denial that this is all in the how many of these guys have their degrees. Well Tom. I mean they're gonna mount a guys who have had a degrees and at the same time news mostly. Guys don't because you leave school. If you left in your senior years earlier than most I mean you have so many guys who left their junior or sophomore year rates are so awkward year. But he don't have a leader how many of those guys go back and finish their degree a lot of guts yeah yet it's does that but David. Man it's that's calling and Lance right yes there's so many guys who don't. So you. It's like you you have to always have a back up plan. You have so many guys who like OK I wanna get in a Cogent that you have no degree so you can't go and coaching Alex did you and the degree you can go to the photo but no degree but who you know. That's a brotherhood might Beatles just let it out here who you are much are hall of Famer. You're not gonna do is get into coaching because the only western people it. You know if you watched most of the coats and in the NFL didn't play football their fathers were all coaches. Now as I've seen through rams right now right coach for the ram what's his name's Jeff. Whatever mr. Fisher echoed his size that is exactly yet and that's how work you know it's. If all the way down through high school on the high school level you have high school coaches who have been who like legends in their grooming their children. How do players view that because buses players just like it when we say something about when a medium amber or even somebody who didn't play hockey makes a comment like look. Leave it leave it to the guys that play how do how do players. In football view that you said you have coaches kids who may never played the game but it might know the system to perfection. There is no it isn't like. How much of it is is respecting the knowledge of the coach or is respecting the the resume of the coach as a player because you know as well as I do. I don't think you're gonna speak as freely and openly with with a couple people you don't know I mean you hardly know cry and you don't or former players are so there's a trust there that different sport but there's still trust. And you know I just wonder lake and I I would look at coaches on our our bench and they all had great Reza Mays whether it NHL or not. They played pro hockey and they knew the game they'd taken a lot we've taken hits and how does a football player. To leap to the post coaches get the same respect. I think it it comes down to your resume it comes down to the knowledge of the system the knowledge of the sport itself. As a player I'd love to have. I never had a true wide receiver close like a guy who played wide receiver I'd love to play for. A coach that plea because they know they know a different side of it they know what it's like to be a player they know how to take care of their players you have someone who. Is grew up learning a system. Or grew up you know some of these boats have like military background and everything so they come in and they talked the any type of way. And they just grew up in that system so yeah I know the system I don't know it's like. I called dozen north like the to feel tense while writing out routed or what I'd like to grip the stick a little bit harder when it passes coming because I literally have not hit the net the last and shots right I'm nervous coach and a coat the coach Heidi what's wrong with you actually. Watch it. The bigger. You're not going to be our guys to be like going down thing. Been there man he's got to relax out of the your fee yeah you hear and feel park your blade. You know we do. You know you know and and it reais or building confidence. Coaches who never played just don't know that he knows him like you say they like what's wrong with you like you're in the pros watch it to make this happen. And it's like coach I'm trying now again I'm human to them make mistakes I make I might drop a pass might miss this block. But just because I did that doesn't mean if you can just say whatever you wanna say in and feel like you you just cut me because I am I missed one block. It it is not you know coast I need I need these couple arrests off I need you to pull back on us in practice will be retired right now you know what a lot of these coaches don't understand. River if you watch the hard knocks at all. It's like I think its second weekend or maybe things and they do it who's seen it I've seen a slow week one OK she did guidance to coax terror into the live jurors obviously started. It is the tell me what that guy gets out of that with I don't know tell me how excited he is. To be like I cannot wait to go out and screw up tomorrow right because I'm still learning so I know I'm going to make a mistake on my next mystique. Is lifeless could be the end. And that's what happens negated the hit. As a day like man is clear I ain't gonna make you play better right but tabloids went how the players. I wasn't a guy who reacted to someone you know anatomy well like if you yelled at me how's this gonna set down probably wouldn't talk to you anymore especially when I got partly because it's like listen. Your coats I'm probably making more money be used. So and I'm grown I have a wife I attempted. Don't think you can just talk the menial way. And it's and it's fine with me you know like we we will talk again I will set you out and to tell you to respect their power just because there in the power and it's like. No work overall it's a sorry go youngest fired we are as design team right. You can get yes you can get axed at your job no differently than I than I thought tomorrow and at the end of the day if I'm not performing. It's your job to teach me the right way and if I don't perform you get fired. So would you get outages young women not to teach me the right way and talk to me like unity. Now he's selling an athlete that's been held out of Puerto. That you stick around a tablet I wanna I wanna talk. Rip and I played in an SE BA that he was guaranteed contracts. And you guys I can't figured out. Yours when you don't play any morsel you know where superstitious we still knock on wood we don't talk we don't like talking about injuries as a ridge says gives in the EB GB's. But it's the harsh realities sports I mean. They're guys akin whose career is over they want change and I just I'm just curious to know. What happens to guarantee contracts what happens if a guy can't come back to mine talking about the stuff but do it restores it. Hockey hotline with Donald Jones more when we return. Donald is now part of the John Murphy show that is now. From twelve to three every day of the week and he's going to be covering the bills and he's going to be bring it as you can tell he's got a lot of knowledge. Hockey outlined more return with Craig Rivera and Donald Jones WGR Sports Radio 550. So I think you have to have done mines I mean that's going to be our first and foremost goal is supplying. Competitive hockey. Consistently and giving ourselves and our good chance that damn playoffs once in the playoffs coming out and and for us I think we're gonna trying to take the good things we're finishing off of last year and you know trying to implement those things right away and our system did you get off to a good start. Welcome back talking hotline that was Colby Franzen talking about playoffs and he's got a great mindset right now as he should. I think the sabres if they can stay healthy Donald you know Donald Jones joining us here in the second hour soft sitting out front we are like. Getting here and that's when it came end. Wanted to talk about Tim Tebow I won't we're gonna talk about. Guaranteed contracts and not guaranteed contracts. But first EU EU says an enemy. Tim Tebow. Tom is is he the type is that on them yet son maybe your headphones on but. There. Were no it's not Tim Tebow is he the type a guy that. What perform a stunt like this just for PR I'm I don't think. That he would just that the army he's made a lot of money so far and he was he works in the media you know so that he's had. As much PR as anyone in this league so he doesn't need any more PR anything he does MB ER regardless. I think he's a competitive you know and ultimately as a competitor. Someone who's like borne. True competitor athletes. I gotta do something competitive you know he's worked in an immediate while I guess that's just wasn't cut before he wants to be around. Sports he wants to be playing soft and be competitive show proved that he can do something you know it's I feel like that's really why he's going to sleep and so. Everybody's saying right I don't think he can go to the majors and he's like let me so -- you know. And even if that that the best thing about Tim Tebow and there's one thing that I think he's displaying right now mental toughness. Because of all because he's going back to one and we were kids saying I want play in the NHL quietly in the NFL I want to do this that was attorney here in the fifth at that you know we talked about staying grounded in the reality I mean he's already made it. That wine is nothing else to prove. But yet he won't feel satisfied until he tries exactly and and if you can't. If you can't. Respect not even respect but just admire that. You gotta give had issues. Right and there's so many people don't understand like there's so many people who just don't understand the one who was like truly competitive. My wife does not deity. We will do anything we do I'm competitive and it's as you like what are you like them I can't help I thought I was. Wired that way I got to win and everything I don't care from place. Well and win it's come heat right there at that fired a complete. I was doing the show in the bay and seasons started coming up talking about it I played the cross growing up and I was decent it was a good but I was. I was good enough but I wasn't the best team. So. I just had this desire to just that was what that was missing when retired was something to competed like I was competing on the radio host competing. Everything else was doing to try to find those two beating army appears that you dream the next page and I think fifteen Beers in in in the three and a half hours badge again let's go directly anything to just give me the the that that. Feeling it if I wanted to go to just it I almost like my dad talked me out of it thinks that and it was great. But I just wanted to go try out it was across like and I can scroll ball and catch a ball not like I probably Tim Tebow when it got to the pro as we are playing with the the big big dogs you'll see that. Big difference in and play but he just wanted something to just you want it won't cross checks but you want to hit somebody once again it. You wanted to drive to the net on something you know. Do something good how your teammate. A boy that you know within the. But he's also 29 years old 29 years old going to approach try out for a a baseball team like how good is this guy. Is this a media stunt for. For the team or is this or is this guy lead jail he did not held he held a try out for like 29. Scouts. There were twenty nine's Goetschl Major League scouts showed up to watch him perform just as I am so Donna was this the equivalent to like. A college days late showcase they prefer. Quarterback was as well early this is equivalent to. You are like a Columbine or Prodi you know where you have all of these different scouts and com and they watch you know and I think. Just doing that he's like listen I'm gonna because everybody's saying like you're not gonna make it to the majors and so for images at 29 teams here. I'm been approved use these to all of these teams that have come watch me play I'm gonna prove you that I can do this. And somebody's gonna slimy and each step he's gonna wanna compete they compete until he makes up into the majors. Maybe he can you know maybe he's good enough to do what I don't think so well okay. You and you duke so you know him you played them what. What will be the sad when will the satisfaction comes for him that he will be of policy and I'm done with baseball now I mean. Is this there's baseball season is still going on so he just showed he did his little trial thing. Seasonal come to an end and then he'll continue to train all the way through. And then in April right arm these are going in February and spring training smarter men like forever and yet it. Down for them and you'll maybe get an invite to camp. Yeah I think. I think he's a guy who he's not going to stop until he gives. Either there or as close as he can't because the money is not an issue he's not a guy who's like Manny Somalia meeting dues money is not an issue. But anything that he does he can go back to ease the end today if he wanted to work to be SEC network. But he wants to compete like he said he wants to make that team he wants to prove everyone wrong Michael Jordan was the same way he wants to prove everyone Munro. Deion Sanders votes Jackson all these Kobe Bryant the top competitors. I'm like listen you cannot tell me that I can't do something I'm if you tell them I can't do something I'm gonna do it on the trying to dodge you don't make it to the pros if you don't have a little of that in some way what's our ambassadors straight roommate. Donald Jones joining us here go ahead with a fast sixty yard dash. Sixty will prompt. I'm so used to look for in total evil or yeah like or are crying and Tim Tebow did it and I'm I'm mask and someone that's. I would say it's six something he did it in six point seven. Yes though fought our way for him. Like I don't know what position he please. You know like I would see I don't know he's gonna play for an outfielder they want it fast want to be like seats. Probably six something like that. 6566. And that range is just like a forty yard dash if your receiver. He'd be met for 344 rain but if you go for five. You can play it successful ball and outfielder in baseball they want to be faster because he they need you to track down on the entire field. And so I don't know what position he's gonna play. I would being put them at first base might get Amherst has a question for you are comment about Tim Tebow go ahead Mike. Because you know amendment in this. I think doses. Someone that's come along every once in awhile but it just such an example for everybody. You know I'm you already know the example sending spiritual level. Now he's setting an example. Annan perseverance. And and another level bigger than the money that everybody is. So caught up and now bigger than you know the media stunts. And everything else cease east sending an example for what people just talk about. Which is going after your dreams you know nothing impossible. Going after what you love he's doing in Lebanon. And you know a lot of guys you'd used part be because of who he is in in his track record. The example can actually be certain it's not an only further effort for kids and young athletes but I think it's an example for for all of us to take a look at. Thank you Mike Mike thankful that because. That the big picture here is definitely being overlooked it's not a publicity stunt I believe that about him Tivo I believe this guy is a fierce competitor. I believe he is. He's wrapping up football for a number of reasons one he does need to beat up his body to. You know he he can try this and he's not. Right if you want yeah not bad like it comes down this. He's doing this for money. This is not a money Stein's money grab I think that he's sitting there and he's a competitor he is it true athlete and competitor and you know football did not work out form. Put his heart and soul this passion throughout his life into it but now you know what now he has new goals and I think this is. You know he's trying to persevere ease ease ease vary competitive like we've like we talked about and I think this is great I IE it's something that I'm deafening and keep an eye on because I wanna see how he does. I got invited to play for listen to this I'm actually gonna do this with this guy tweets I noticed I cabin he tweets me you can join our old man masters rules. Box lacrosse team. We have a blast it's scratches the competitive pitched without the physical beat down signed me with that. I will have Johnny to various flight stats in a matter of days in not a hockey color. Donald Jones joining us here on now hockey outline WGR 550 he is. On the John Murphy now from twelve to three every day and all I want mass she's that we I do wanna talk about the gear to contracts and appointments he's that we have we have a little bit of time here but. How is your transition out of sports. Out of first football you want to play baseball we talked about you know the competitive it's put what was it like for you I'll tell you I went through a series depression. It wasn't the game wasn't that dollars and cents it was the the law of the youth feel and walk the the competitiveness. That the guy next you have gone to the same exact thing. In your city work in his and an everyday office the person nexus early in the next office over the next cubicle over the next desk over hasn't. You guys necessarily haven't. Onto the scene things to get there you know when a locker room it's tight it's a brotherhood if there if you can you can't use that word outside the real world doesn't exist if they're a. I'm so much transition outflows. Was tuchman went through the serious for a swap played football with fifteen to 20% kidney function in my career I did know that I did so talk about that audience that goes on so. Come. I've my career is indeed so prematurely. That it was like me and what does happen you know it was like at the top marker or coming into the peak. And what does happen is is gone now and so that was tough. And then I miss Koppel is I miss the guys in the locker room going to laugh in and watching these guys I mean. I'm just playing these games are watching these guys at home on TV normally mrs. so much fit in is nothing that can that I can do now. That will bring that back right of course I still have that competitive spirit in anything that I do right now I'm an immediate though. Actually you'll Woody's TV show known and it's like well. Go national level panel I don't settle for mediocre any landing we start we don't start to remedial right right Elena go national with the and so. But that that transition how was tough for me because I was still with so much I had a transplant. Now on I'm taking twenty to permits twice a day so I was like so much going on. And I just want apple not opening day aside all alone to do was would be around the guys and and play football so. That's I got back into coats while played baseball and and I got coaching and it was like nothing that I could do that to bring back dead even it as a cult. It's like Allen be out there because he's got to make mistakes and I know exactly you're about to make this mistake and Agassi coming. And you make the mistake or someone is like not training like these I hate people who disrespect to gain. Because that train hard it didn't matter what I was going through. So things like that it's really. It's is bugged me to the point where as like I don't know what to do and so with tough for me that's didn't know. I did I mean I wrote a book that became a best seller written in self published it now another competitive thing it was like no. I'm to reduce myself hustle the car use the money to write the book became number one seller. And so everything that everything that I do I compete in the Bible bowling on competing you know and I think it's because. I just wanna play like I still had that needs to play what what did you feel about like your purpose did you feel like your purpose in life when you when you quit football use what's my purpose now. Now I kind of thought that my purpose. And I still truly believe this is too I'd affected a lot of people doing with kidney disease. I've traveled the world talking to people dealing with kidney disease in children and although we have three adults and so. I think I am that person that they look up to like me and you can really come back from medicine and have a normal life and enjoy life and and that's what I do now I mean not actually doing joint life. And I enjoyed to go to hospital and antsy child five years old doing with what I dealt with you know so I think that's my purposes it is. Teach people who were doing with kidney disease or people who come out and I came out of the rough area managers the people come from these different in a season. Where might this tough backgrounds and just how to make him understand it you can do this that you can make it out of any situation as a matter who you lot do it best that's true purpose and I think a lot of people think that that's like that why does that fall on deaf ears so much is like holes people just think now while he uses special exception in the fifth at. Because they're so I just actually some minds that is so many people who just don't. They had no positive outlook on life. And it's like you can do that. You know a year and a situation right now I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel. Is no act and make that happen and so if you're that person everybody else around you you're light. Pouring that used on them as well you know like you can't do that where he's not that urge you get your guidance from. I had. So my dad my uncles you know I had those guys always they were always positive and I had. Aside in my family cousins. Who were mine needs a little bit older who were in the streets and you know grown up I I did some things in the streets with them but they always like listen you have the skills that. And personality to make it out of this situation so I had a positive had a negative side it was also positive and so I had that double. You know double sized emir or just listen via your C thirty for thirty range university lol yeah there's my favorite is that not them. Off as one of my favorites and it's that guys that guys it just a real story who yeah rated losses. I mean. When you watch him now I'd include them I wish he was like my idol you know nobody would he really was a guy I mean AD when they don't. Ray and waivers Thursday. They named nick pets after you know aptly receivers that it violated just come off. Because of him that's right Mazda star crossed because the view of the guy who. They go up top when you every single place. Let's talk more about this when we return. Your amazing Donald Jones comic Craig commander hockey hotline WGR Sports Radio 550. I'm feeling good. Very productive offseason that summer Trang and sort of go through the protocol or not but sooner or get. Welcome back final segment hockey hotline. Andrew Peters that was Cody Bronson talked about this summer Craig rebate Donald Jones high enough to join us here Franco's he'll step in here for John Murphy. In a couple minutes so examiner got to get out here 5450. Because that's my right panic every day is going to be I don't buy 5440. Just a great Canadian and waved Murphy and apps to lose. I know my listeners today. But you know what though we were talking a lot of great feedback here don't appreciate it very much. Can you explain to a couple guys who had the life of Reilly will be guaranteed contract when are you what it's like being a football player. Is it as. Tense as we think it might be from the outside like I'd be cut tomorrow now the big ticket guys we know that's not gonna happen but certain players they literally just walked into this. Eight and one day and be gone most of the NFL. They're I mean nobody can contact us guarantee that might be like 2% of guys some of the rookies now get fully guarantee counts. And it's because with the news deviated concepts not as big. And so most of the guys make. 50600000. A year right and so you can walk in any day and be cut and it you can be a guy who's making millions. I mean these owners have so much money you really don't care you know they'll cut you if you're not performing. Our cuts I'll take that 12 million dollar hit in cuts you know so it's intense like I don't I don't know how but the hockey contacts work. But you can't get cut you can't tell you are. You're so protected this is like this is why can't believe you guys signed off on scene yeah it was just the fact that. You guys just literally beat and one day out the other and I was we is hockey players weak spots that are seeing here is that. Here's the reality of like I was the guy who was made game like 500 K beer permit that at that time. And we were locked out and it was like you know we need money coming in and so there's so many guys like that. Bet they get the players is just like no we got to make a deal we got to make a deal because we need income and Gaza spending money and not do what they're supposed to do anyway. So liberal NFL not guilty you guys a stipend monthly or anything. Really it is nothing imminent unless. There's not locked up if we were totally locked out. A player that comes to training camp try horror that they get money comically yet again you made like about a week from that what a guy safety signs trial could actually 25 grander and grander titanium and I came in and drafted. Thousand island it's right now. My contract with two. So they gave it to them. Coming out how has no idea sign me up about it at dinner out by guys time and he did Arctic definitely between that and doing that tough job my job yet prom. But. There's so many guys who don't get that and now like you Geisel signed for a thousand dollars and then. Every week of practice you get paid right about now it might be more because I'm not there anymore it's five years ago now. But it was something like a thousand dollars a week so. You're always on it doesn't matter like it or and tonight. I couldn't live like that I can I thought playing hockey I thought my job is stressful it got ugly. The fear of the job and everything I I could not perform like that I couldn't perform like that. It's it's I mean I just I just gain I mean I think I knew that and the Airways respected colors like as we talked about it in the last Xenia was Applera. And I remember. What we didn't think about it because it didn't apply to us but now I'm on the outside looking you're talking to a guy who had delivered I don't rip I don't know that. Imagine you were making 3.5 million yet he did you know that would how do you walk and immediately be me to put. There but how do you go in the years. You cut one day. What happens if you if you have a nagging injury let's say you hurt your knee and and and game one of the the first you know week. What happens after that a few years you're struggling in game you know second week do can they cut. You here's here's the what they won't tell you and would we unique a player reps that you. If you get hurt. And you never tell us the field again. They have to buy you out right you have to be settled with you to buy you out if you touch the field one day of practice they can cut you and you'll get anything. And if so many guys and the thing is they're like I gotta get back and get back not knowing that they're in their mind they're gonna cut you. You know is so you try your hardest to get back. And an exception like that. I'll just jump in for the fact that you guys obviously all played in the leagues and I did not but to me it sounds like and keep track you from wrong. It sounds like you'd almost be willing to make a little less if it meant you had security. In terms of an ominous sign a bigger deal but it but it also goes that the risk that I can get caught any day you be willing to take less money. And say look I'd rather have this country be guaranteed in the sense that how I'm going to how you'll. Lot of we can cut you right and how you approach it like you said like every day now I know I can go all out on my job not having that thought in the back in my mind all the and you crack in the office today that's right that is all that's. Absolutely right I mean it did the fear for us was. For me and I him in the lineup but. That's not my job bracket that's totally different it's totally different and you even got that these big inflated contracts you here with top fifty million. He got when he made guarantees the rest of that money is back we'll be right in through that third fourth fifth here's the concept. Usually they're gonna either restart your contract so you'd taken last and you know I I have to do data didn't cut me. So Eli I'll go from making eight million years to four million years something like that which you'll take it amounts are still have a job. But they can beat the back will these contracts and they will cut you. This is how were they restarts and you have to sign somebody else we got to sign him so we need to restart your continent. This is how they're in the so worth if that it's a bad deal that the players got an NFL knows that they have the power they meet the money. They have the power it is to and that the players don't the players don't make enough too big to fail yeah it it and the big it's amazing because NFL makes out of all of the major leagues in itself. Makes the most money all 100% sleep twelve billion dollars payless and Brian sorry lettuce and thank you for letting us go into the dumber for some time and you're filling in. Donald Dawes thanks for coming on cause you'll have a retiree and all week from her just today just unable that we better get outs you get your time and if it rankles you coming up next twelve to three wood Donald Jones Andrew Peters Gregory back tomorrow ten to noon hockey allied WGR Sports Radio 550.
