Good morning welcome to the investigators I'm Andrew Peters Craig group made Thursday means Matty Ellis is here. It's the gators showed WGR Sports Radio 5:50. And am asked G. Sabres nodding. Not an action right they don't play tonight they are home and home and actually back to back burst Columbus that's going to be challenged coming up sparsely with. Couple tough games at the plate we're gonna get more oriented that Matty Ellis. Bills re sign Tyrod Taylor to restructure contracts are bringing them back under restructured contract also rumors that Stephon Gilmore new bluebird. He's one of the New England Patriots supposedly so that's a guy that we get to rip on when he comes back in the bills played the pats pictures of the reason. Hate the New England Patriots so we're three hockey guys here give you two hours of NFL free agencies so. Look Florida that an act and and ribs favorite football position the both sides whom his favorite football because of what to fullback. You know the fullback is while I learned this morning. Who taught you about a fullback this JJ. He gave me the rundown. I. You know I'm I can't see them up on my positions and now I don't know a whole lot of vote. And a follow football but I love it I think the movie is great with skyrocket you know I think that he's gonna come back. A little bit stronger more confident should look at all or maybe he's had a full year under his belt being a starter. And I think that you know with a little bit to more time I think you're gonna see and even sharper better Tyrod Taylor is do you. Do you think it's fair to compare the quarterback position of football to the goaltending position in in hockey I mean when you think about a our goaltenders that ends up becoming. You know a starting goaltender team that Lee you know you need to lead going to lead your team. To the files into a championship but you look at a guy like what's even Henrik Lundqvist like Ike came in the league I think around the same time as Henrik Lundqvist so I was able to. Watches careers of compare. A guy like that to a quarterback but he took his lumps too he took his lumps. I mean all goaltenders in quarterbacks I mean same thing they they have to they don't just come in and dominate right away Brian Moehler got peppered a bunch of times early on his career. You know coming up and up and downs or are all at argument. There today DeVon direct yachts and Kerry price wasn't necessarily Carey Price right out of the gate yacht America. Airy praise when he first came into the league. He was having interviews in Montreal he was crying. And Horry was. These are your exactly right in order to become a lead is indeed to be able that it. They'll be that foundational piece for your team which in which candidate goaltender quarterback you got that you're gonna take your bumps in the road and that's just that's part of the progression of becoming. A lead and part of becoming you know. That core backers that bullet that person that they cannot everybody's gonna be Sidney Crosby or you know. All that skin or now we're looking that may indeed did not everybody's gonna come into the league right away. And take it by storm that's that he was a sixth round pick to right but does it is there something to be say to be said about Tyrod. You know swallowing his pride I mean restructuring your contract he sent a massive deal last year and he wants to come back play here. I mean to tell me what here's the thing the reality is he he could you got the same amount of money. For another team and in the NFL. Without question. Tyrod I think would have been. A quarterback that that teams would have definitely been interested. That being said I think Tyrod wants to come back here I think there's unfinished business right here he wants an opportunity. To show the fan base himself his teammates everybody around him that he can get this job done and you know what he. He manages the ball well. I and manages the bell ball well they had at least amount of turnovers you know. Are there things that sound like skip Bayless over well or steroids that I've talked football now man you know is he going to be a gunslinger like somber eighty year Drew Brees or those guys know he's not he's gonna manage the ball well and he's he's gonna play it Smart. Brand of football that hopefully is gonna give this team an opportunity offensively on the are off on the offensive side of the ball a chance to win games and I think that he's done a good job they can solidified their. 803055888550. To 550 we have a Twitter pull out and daughter and and I felt free agency. We figured we'd throw out the all Twitter Paul and we went with if today were NHL free agency what is your number one wants for the sabres. And right now I mean it's it's a whopping. Favorite to word. Defense. 8% goal 3% four in 89%. State defense com. Is. I wanna know where number four is what's number four all of the above. I was trying to think about a number four but I don't think that I. All the about. Go are we do well tendered goaltending I think has been real salt butter we are we guaranteed to get back in under strict free agent and Anders Nilsson. I I would like Mac noble what you guys think I think that he's a big body he's he's played well this year when he's been in net. But he's gonna have auctions an opportunity. And I hope that they I hope to see him back I don't know what what with the marketing and even wanna move on and go somewhere for an opportunity I don't know where as you know is he getting started there's there's only thirty teams in the league 31 team all big league what about a team like Arizona. Okay really that's area and number one who Mike Smith absolutely love and have it to me day. Who. Seems to play buffalo pretty well but. You know we have issues on with no issues in the sense that we need to re sign an unrestricted free agent. I think Robin miner coming back is going to be a guy that they're probably in one back. Com I think he's had a solid season I think that he can build off its first year as a starter. The forward line. There needs to be some tweaks and move on the forward line moving forward. Possibly set out that tweet Chris Baker and actually few other people have responded. Actually 1234. People have responded with our Karl all's fair. Caps. How you look and the IE home. Garment. But I'm not violate your I like your reaction that I mean I I'm with everybody and that's what purple and Hillary is resolve above. But I. It all I think it starts at defense I think it's been a glaring issue all year. You know if they need to upgrade the they need to get stronger in the need to get more consistent. On the back end and I mean. How I guess they I don't know what time Hubble Karl alls are in the season he's having but. With what he's done in the past you know he may be he the type to demand that did that you may look towards but that there's definitely a need. And that's that's where you got to start is looking out to kind of rebuilding your back and there is an Arnold you. We are thought. What I mean. Yet you ownership to free agent defenseman on on on the roster right now and ankle coffin Franzen will they be coming back I don't know I don't make those decisions. But you have to kind of factor in. Branding cooling. Who had an opportunity to play a sedentary games I think this year in and the games that I watched them play as. As a nineteen year old stimulus link year old kid I thought you looked pretty darn good so. With with another summer of training. And working the weights and and and trying to build that strength and power. So he can play at a higher level. I think that he is certainly. A young man that they are there going to be look at that they're gonna give him an opportunity to make this team next year. So there is an opportunity there's a there's a player there. Is there an unrestricted free agent defenseman out there people are kicking the tires on. Kyle all her from the Washington Capitals wall I do know this that he was a former first round draft pick. He's a very solid. Defender. He's not an offense of defenseman they have enough of those in and now. In Washington but he's a solid defender he moves the puck well and you know he's he's a good solid piece of the puzzle what you and you have to understand he's not an offensive threat he is going to be a defensive defenseman. A solid puck mover which. You know everybody would love to have you just wanna make sure that when you're dealing with guys like that that you're not you know overpaid them do what guys like this houses even a question anything other than. Well you know what I understand what people obviously I. You know people out there I've watched. The defense have been a little bit inconsistent in their play there's been a lot of injuries this year whether it's too cool cough whether it's to Georgia's Bogosian and you know it seems like there's kind of like that rotating. In a note type. You know defenders all year long there needs to be we want players that can move the puck. We want defenseman that can move the puck I we would need guys that can isn't total for a transatlantic. Moved at least the better passers on this team I I don't care what anybody says. He's one of the better if you watch Cody Franzen. Number one I don't think he's necessarily being utilized properly there are other player you say that about every defenseman on the on the buffalo and our emotions another one too I mean look I I'm narc and denied that too but listen. It's no question that I think a lot of people are in favor of defense it. Twitter poll basically says that I think Joey you've got interested in bringing back Cody fronts in the yes I would. Yes I would. I'd be interested in bringing back who else cool off. You know I don't know I don't know that. I yeah well you know you don't know a lot of things like. Because you're you're you're you're talk and we'll bring him back from your talk of bringing back who cough we're announcing I would batsman is what we had last year I'm so what are the other. Both I don't know. Do I think that they're guys that that you have to get rid of I think they're guys that you two. You need to maybe if you can operate in certain areas yeah for sure and it cost I don't know. Because right now those two guys are what seven point seven million dollars that was school format four point 34 point three in confronts what three point eight point 35 point eight. Four point. So like I don't know I honestly don't know you're going to gamble that I don't know that one you're going to be able to get Carl's there. And number two I don't know that you're going to be able to do with what you have been in the in your depth chart right now burning cool he's an exception maybe. That you're gonna be able to. Do anything significant to change your team to be quite honest and yet at this point. So I think that you might you might have to bring those dealers got beat creative. And they got to the got to look all right is that is that you see that. Toll Enders like I mean I I don't like I don't wanna give you don't wanna give up I wide. What Carl's car if we've got to bring them to a team where he's looking at us in going you're one of the worst teams in the league. In order for me to go there because I'm going to be one of the top unrestricted free agent. Amy the money and you're gonna over pain if that's the guy I don't want. I'm not overpaying. And and screwing up my salary cap moving forward to get a guy. He switches you know Karl is you know is the superstar honestly know he's at peace. Eight peace to Washington Capitals defense scored because they have Niskanen. They have. Or pick. Or law they have. Help me out here Carlson I mean they're loaded with. All sooner benefits from playing on a very strong team. So don't go in overpay him just to bring him the ball will thinking that he's going to be some super stud that he's not. Here's someone who doesn't necessarily think it's just all about defense fill in north tunnel wanna fill go ahead you're on WGR 550 with Andrew Craig Matt and amnesty actually by the way if you watching on television go ahead fell. Thanks to take my college guys do great jobs I think the number one. Need to Buffalo Sabres as goaltending. I know you guys some reason like Robin lane here. He was he has not stopped the goal would shoot outs number one number two. He is save percentage is great but it seems that when the sabres play with him they give up more shots. Then they get and when Nielsen plays the sabres get more shots than they give up I don't know that has to do with that attitude good goalie I don't know. I just think they shouldn't invest another dime item because. He came out played shutouts it's pretty obvious. And the goaltender means more than a shoot out over time but they've got twelve overtime losses if they would have made. Stop in the capital bump Ed those six point story out we're right in the playoff race doesn't work out of a playoff straighten out because of our goaltending. And the lack of defense. The lack of defense that lack of impact in. Let me let me ask you this thing all got off got a great point is still still on the liner it's her job job piece called backed bill RT I got a question for Phil. Are we blaming all the shootout loss is just on rob Meyer or we blaming it on Sam Reinhart knuckle rile the and a post or NightCall everybody else who hasn't scored a goal. How we got a goal fail. Please tell me the last goal that we've got from our forwards in a shootout to give our goaltenders and confidence. So we just sit there and blame everything on the goaltenders at the easy thing bill it's easy thing. Workers you have an alert issued its order labor all of the listeners I think they do this and I think it should get the radio I think that we should get rid of samurai dark and bring in Thomas and it is he can he really did she. I think we should do what. Screw. Jock Michael socks and shootouts. Let's get rid of bomb beacon shootouts are aware that. Felt the games played in sixty minutes. Robin Lehner has had a very strong season goal look at this statistics. Marty burn off. Goaltending guy of seventeen years and National Hockey League put him in the top fifteen. Why are we getting rid of that guy when this is the first year in his career that he's had an opportunity to be number one you think you can be worse next year or do you think he's going to get better as the team gets better. Everybody gets better cost. There's more confidence that he's gonna have because he's going to be in situations that he's party faced he's facing situations he's never faced before. And he's also playing on a team that struggles defensively to how that's supposed to work out for goaltender. Please stop on the goaltender stuff. Please stop. That's my rant you know what river are. I gotta say well done but first at all. I just wanna say this. I just want a look at the DE rate look at the seven. McCabe wrist a line in in no particular order came a cable wrist a line in fall Bogosian Georgia's Bronson. Cool off. That's pretty decent seventy. Can't we can't we not say a little bit that's maybe a little bit that and I wanna put the onus Matty on the forwards a little bit. You don't turnovers and crucial areas put the put the defense in bad spots. I got the defensive made mistakes yes Steve Steve Jobs they've made mistakes playing in front of the net sometimes little soft. But can't we look at the forward and say that some of the forwards or majority of the forwards or the collective group. Need to be better in front of the. Naw I I'm with guy I do not believe it's on the goaltending I'll start there I mean I think the goaltending. When with the goal is give them a chance to win which is a lot of nights earlier there weren't score goals were more creating offence and all year long. Outside of a few years I feel of the goaltending has been solved for for the most part I don't think that that's been an issue. On the flip side to your point PDs. I do think that you know forwards do take some of the honest because it you know it comes on a managing the pocket man and that's situational awareness at times. In the gamble what you can do what you can't do where you put the pock the situations that certain things that you try. And then what happens is is you end up playing more time defenses in the up front has the pieces that. Should be comparing teams in their own and with pace with X accuser with skilled play. But there's time for we don't see that. Because were maybe pressing a little bit too hard and trying to create too much out of nothing instead of seeing. No we're gonna be tactical I think Chris made the point last Thursday were the top teams in the league. Do things over and over and over again and their patient within that because they know they're gonna get their opportunities and create that breakdown. Yes insane reason why ordinary point they play the same way as what they do. Each and every game they don't deviate from the plan the game plan and they play the same way and one night they're gonna play team. Where they're gonna beat that team to one. Another team on another night they're gonna beat that team five nothing is the other team's gonna have breakdowns. But that did the team that wins gonna continue to play the same way there's also going to be nights where you play the same way and you'll lose 321. But that's okay because you did the things that it took to win the game. You didn't deviate from from the game plan which is still got beat by a team. A better team on that night you can swallow your pride because you can walk go to the game going we did everything that we wanted to do we just got beat. By a better time that should tell you this you've never heard me criticize this team wore the shooters or the goalies in the shootout because I flat out do not care. About shoot notes if they if they. If the game goes to shoot out I would just as much rather shuttered off then watched a watched three on three all day and this is not about rule changes old GM's. Matinee at the GM meetings and not much to come out of that which I can't believe that the Olympics the games that perfect. But the fact of the matter is I don't care about the shootout I don't care what Robin Leonard was in the shootout because in the playoffs when you get there there are no shootouts. There are no shootouts and and that's you know I don't people are gonna see what you need to win shootouts in order to get to the playoffs I understand what you need to win those games in regulation to. Plain and simple soul the fact of the matter is that he can't pin it on Robin Lehner in the shoot out this is not a shootout issue this is this is how the team plays. Picked some nights most nights. Period I hear your bag on PD you need to learn how to win and there are certain there are there certain ingredients in a certain level of consistency. Game after game night after night that goes into it that if you want to win it you need to get their and you're right. You take the shootouts out of it and you take a look at it. Are you doing enough to win are are you buying and enough or you are you. Doing the things consistently. To give yourself who have that opportunity collectively as a group that can't be its spots here you got five guys are doing it right you got two guys that are slipped and collectively and that's where the teams that are perennial playoff teams the teams ago deep teams and have a chance to win year after year. That's at the sign. Of what they do if you look at them and study them that's what they have throughout their lineup night after night day after day practice after practice. Comes out of the way the prepare and they're prepared in the gold in the X accused. And it's not that hard but it it it has to become habitual it's got to become part of what your team is what your culture is in what you're state where your standard is and that's where culture. That's you know better than anybody you know line. You played in this organization. You know better than anybody Detroit Red Wings we were talking about it this morning they're gonna make the play they're gonna. Not make the playoffs for the first time. In 25. Years after the longest. In the National Hockey League do you know who second. What's the team that second date they've been making the playoffs consecutively so. You know it is no I don't Kate what conference work. Hey hey hey metropolitan. I was then all the metropolitan division. Pittsburgh Pittsburgh penguins' ten years in a row they've made the playoffs. San Jose. And they were they were like eight. Car. The point is Detroit where red wings 25. Years hero Matty said it best it's culture the players that papering in. They've played this seems dial. For years and when you when you get brought into the environment. That culture of that team they've got. You lead leaders that they've had three years since the BI's amendment. And all there all their great players Nicholas Lidstrom and Datsyuk and now Zetterberg. They how they culture on that team that it doesn't matter who goes there you'd just buy into it. If you don't buy into it. If you don't buy into it you're gone like. Is that not true Matty collier bay congress you're you're yours your bag on our game is it's not he's he's he's right back odds are up the Bhutto lowered their talking a whole culture was taught in Iraq there was that there is one pack there used now to buy one last. You know there's culture there's there's an environment that you built. And that you have of your older. Or you're in the players buy into. Everybody plays this way we do not deviate and go vote on your own agenda. If that's the case goal play some but somewhere else. In Detroit they would have rather house of a player that has lesser scale. That's gonna do exactly what they say then how this skill player that wants that only have his own success. That's that's the reality. Antonio Lewis and you're on the line with Andrew Craig and manner and WGR 550 chemist you go ahead. They guys they have a show. I wanna go back to appoint you guys made earlier. But the defense men and accountability. I agree with what when he gets sent. Think the sport should be held more accountable. Definitely a lot of turnovers made by. A lot of the guys break out though. And ultimately could be put me cannibal a little more of the that. And that's sort of been produced from the point. Know a lot of guys like. Cool cause and Bogosian don't have many points this year is currently racking up is that I think we just get more goals from the point that back more and try to get guys and urban. Whoever. Well it's tougher than defenseman to jump up on the rush when they expend all of her and her energy in the defense's own dipped at defending. You know they spend what 3040 seconds in his own they're battling they're using their bodies they're fatigued. Once the talks now goes up the ice where they go. They spend so much energy playing in their defenses a home because a lot of the times the defense or a little bit to pass of the sentiments are too passive. And the wingers I think to do a better job I mean that collectively as a five man unit in the defensive zone the sabres can be a better hockey team they can be harder team to play against that they are a little bit too soft therefore they play more time in their zone. No just two hundreds of Santa I wrote a couple things downer Willie stock in his in his bag on. One thing that that I noticed in the diss on is the ability and plays quick which comes of that hardness that resist talking about. As well as keeping guys on the outside you know it you have to make it. You have to earn your rights okay from from fort standpoint if you wanna get in the goals foreigner you wanna get in the host you have to earn it. And watching too often. We're seeing guys over power overtake hard he can get on the inside which. Allows them the ability to create traffic create second opportunities and gnaw at the end of the day put pucks in the back here net. One thing that is he was talking about the DNA and the pressure and how the end up haven't changed because they've been they've been hemmed in for so long. I think part of it what we've we've all played systems. And systems cut a come down X accused in and everyone doing their thing but there's a word that that always comes out you talk about the best systems are based on truck straight. And that's why systems are in place of the G nose at the centers in the d.s gonna go down three quarter ice and pinch in the ozone you know as a sentiments got his back. Sometimes I feel like they're caught that in between because I don't think on a night tonight game to game basis there's 100% trust. And that job's getting done no should I go no deviation goal but yeah I should of went you know it some of that is based on trust and when you don't have that. You play slow you have a team that on paper should be fast. You place lol when the trust factors not there and I know that might be cliche I remember your cat is member your kid to school here. In some big kid in grade seven or grade eight sister poked in the chest near your locker and settle C afterschool. Near like aren't being there. And you go there. But that gay your best buddy got picked up by his parents and laughed he got a quote that it does that schoolyard by yourself. You feel confident going out there. You'd feel confident going out there. No they're not rocket fuel company you know wanna know why it's not that you can't deal with the guy and Friday you're worried about everybody else around you because no one has your back. Let me tell you the next day comes that pokes in the chest again. Media schoolyard. We have two buddies that say a doctor back there after school and you walked out there together and you feel like a million bucks gets you know that you got guys behind yet. If you make the mistake or something. They're gonna be there to help Leo. That. Is what the sabres need to be. They need to be together they need to know that if I'm going to get beat. I'm gonna have a guy dared it that has my back and it just continues to go all over the ice. Don't have guys feel insecure and I'm not sure why should go no you go and I got your back if you make mistake. And that's it uses solid dirty Harry to spend time. Back in this. Back into the younger days well somebody wells. I I gonna take that story home and take it very with me around back. But if you're Pacman is getting picked up. We're going to break when we come back John talkers going to be witness John Tucker former buffalo sabre. He's going to be in the junior savors his junior team is playing one of the teams that I grew up playing for one year. Georgetown raiders and I think what's the score Georgetown up one nothing they play tonight a dirt 22 games to 12 games to one Georgetown and the best of as to seven the FD import and I mean for a night John talkers going to be up with us next call it and by the phone. Sorry I'm just walk away by that backyard stuff about. C Mattie you're feeling it too right definitely feel right it's hard not to it is getting just radiates it I just radiates. Manned trip legends when we return it's the gators Gregor ratio WGR Sports Radio 550 an amnesty. Yeah we're back with more of the instigated it's presented by MP Carol hard. Welcome back to the investigators Andrew Peters trigger may Matty Ellis W. GR Sports Radio 515 MSG call lines are open 803055088550. To 550. Once a quick hello all the boys down there him huddled up in the academy office having coffee and doughnuts. Saying a lot of the boys and watch in the fellas hey soul somebody sent a a great week here. When did Craig group may be com's souls are all philosophical. Sounds like a new segment revelations with refrain we should call revelations. Revelation revelation. Like what's that guy from asset now who is that guy he selected Amir good enough guy a now. I frittered it good enough I'm Smart enough. What's his name Stuart Smalley. I think is when his name was right. Played by it was an Al Franken I think I think anyway John Tucker there John Parker we're waiting on John Tucker junior coach tier 2 January. In the OP GA HL. And to delete when the athletes that will last but he seven. College are commits some other team right now they've. You guys that are committed to going to be one you know they have a they have a couple viewing we are also tied in yet sure about and everything that he won the academy's. And so with a lot of the junior players. I'm not on the coaching staff but what we do during the during the season is in season portion is the academy. Myself in a few the other guys we we were able to get on the ice at the junior kids in and runs of their skill development sessions. For them in the morning for the guys in our school which which is a lot of fond. A great group of guys some really really good hockey players and it's a type of program where you're you're seeing more and more kids advance in and create greater opportunities within the game for themselves and think it. Much of the actual number but they definitely have some NCAA commits. The media and or children have picker to on the team but. But the program that's building and create a momentum and this is a crunch time for them that the time of year that everybody wants to be involved in and they're. The middle of a seven game series with the team from Georgetown. Down to numbers. And Steve writes huge horse trying to tie when I played for when I played for Georgetown John Tucker joins us to Johns on line morning John eight. Gave buddy the you know the old told him thanks for having us on adding I hate us. Georgetown and number one team in the league eight you know that when I played there armistice started trying to is when I played their back in 9697. Our record there three wins. 48 losses. And one ties a little bit of a turnaround since then how's it going. Am not a bad bank source sound actually. And the league we play and we're the only American team and there's a western leader momentarily. And throughout the rest in recent they're ranked number two in the country so it's. It's quite a challenge but the kids came together the other night when we won our first game and our building sort of play against Vanderbilt in again. And hopefully can tie the series up. John Tucker joining us head coach of the buffalo junior savers junior eighteen Johnny. So what what where you where you guys ranked in Natalie. Or metal packed. It's. It's certain court really good league for young kids and there's sixteen of twenty year old kids. Its rivals VO excel in the way that our kids wanna go to school. They want education work at a plant in Ontario hockey league. You lose that NCAA eligibility. So by playing in the OJ chill which easily learn. The kids keep their eligibility that we can push kids to do you want schools. What's the difference in talent between a middle of the pack team and a number two team in Canada. I think depth I think they just have a few more kids that can choose from. There's a lot of kids plan and we're still building up program here. Once we get things going or build attract more kids and some some better kid but we do enjoy it out of most of Western New York as our team. Including Rochester we have reporters from Rochester so quickly and most of build up of kids around the serve which. I'm being in the middle of October of the league like that is really good thing. ID I I heard you mention you just said that a lot of the kids on the American side or are. A lot more college driven Majid you have leaders talking about this before you have college commits on your roster right. We do we actually lost one of our players under trees or just after Christmas to the Niagara. So that's just aware that the kids are ready to go play a different level no matter what kind of season we can push them along. We have a lot of kids going to be three programs and we do four to 41 commits to playing our roster now. Three or four. Yes we do know where more than. Tucker weapon is going to position us Ryan source it is committed to. Union. Erica herb page is committed to Dartmouth. And really didn't trouble I can't remember the other ones. Although I don't don't worry about it John. So you guys play you play it's a 47 series that you guys played tonight in buffalo. We played out our was better. We had a lot of juniors they were younger teams tomorrow and support us on Monday night we play and what it was a really. Really special thing no more people in the building and so on. Tonight again at 730 up over senator admission is free this military ignored games. And it is. A greater level of some of the most of premier kids in the in the area plan hockey it's really good luck if your interest in watching out. John Tucker former buffalo sabre and now the current head coach of the buffalo junior sabres. Junior rate team joining us on the line talks are you watching much of the sabres I mean we're. We're talking actually let's let me ask you this we're talking about the sabres just today is an FL free agency okay so we're talking about we have a Twitter poll out. If today were NHL free agency what will be the number one area you want the team to address. You know so we're talking about defense and I'm and that's the number one thing I mean. Can you tell us and people listening just the value of a solid defense corps building and building your team in the NHL. The the cut proposition from him if I coach a little bit professionally in Europe. And defensemen are a quality that's tough to find. That more attention to be an offensive. Let defenseman but sometimes just seven instead home player moves the puck. And just park to look forward and goes the other way is this something values which. I think his I'm more I'm more into that these didn't minor hockey part of it right now didn't. And actually works in an insult to that sold on what we're teaching kids resistance in the value of put a good fit on offense and conduct a move the puck is that is that someone that people want. Are you sole case so when you're teaching let's talk about like two long ones is stuff like that so we have we watch clips on the show we watch clips all the time league wide. You know we're you know we're talking about these guys point 21 ones giving out shots to the goalie what are you teaching your defense on on your team I mean. You know we teach them on our team and and we walked in the NHL I would say that. I don't know rib would say that he's played with goaltenders. That want. Shocked guy taken they don't want the the backdoor pass having some goalies want to act or play I mean do you have a specific way that you teach your defensemen that level. As a forward coming down like this week trying to read off the defensemen all work but we try to teach it is. It is it's not it's not just state tape of the back door past waiting anymore I mean I think that the defense of Michael Lidstrom. Well Chris Cilic would almost make you go into one on one situation where these. As they get older more experienced can take a wave of the past twelve still computer bad angle. I think it's a defenseman Kim. Teach himself to do that app. That that's a good way to defend it to won't want. Hey Johnny what times a game and I meant for a third of cancer. All right go get them they if they don't John Tucker Don Parker had coach of the off platoon receivers to injury team. Well look you'd twelve us. We practice rate before those guys place or imagine a lot of our. Our families will be a sticking around for that did cheer on our U twenties so I wish them. Wish them all the best night Matty got the academy what are you guys teach and defenseman and what what he sees so we're talking about. Sabres free agency in wind defenseman. What are you teaching defenseman in those situations and playing in front of the net that you wanna see more from the sabres. Or one with a is that where we've actually had a lot of discussions about this because we've. You know part of our job is to can look at transit and pick certain areas where you see that there's a need and we've we identified as a group did on the opposite. Building defenseman is something that we need to take pride in. You know as an academy and is. Through through our junior receivers as well work. There's certain things we've started to identify rate from the young ages on up in a certain skill progression. Of where they need to be first and foremost when you're lucky you wanna lay the foundation the footwork. The ability DD efficiency of the fee that the body positioning. Then it goes in this things that you're stick detail your situation awareness your ability to move the puck your ability to. I guess he read a fore check read the plays in kind of bill that hockey I Q from from the young each that you're able. I guess you're able to handle certain situations. Right so wrestle were we're watching that we're watching the sabres and we don't need that to name players but we watched two law once it looks like. It looks like almost there has never been communication between mark goaltenders want. And what the defenseman should do gives you were talking about playing in San Jose with who was a hula Nabokov now Brcko in the market. He wanted to use he wanted to defenseman to me he wanted to you wanna play he just. Want you'd escape back in the middle and kind of like not quite know what it kind of read off the guy who has the parking you know we have the back door knocking it take it a 100% I mean there had to be. Nabokov wanted when I was skating backwards and I had a 211 I knew exactly what I was gonna do when I was gonna do it. Was up to meet and Nabokov would read off me. So what our plan was as a defense corps and the goaltender. Is when your playing at 211 is to be deceptive be in the middle making it look like you're not going to be going at the shooter. I'd tell there's an opportunity where you. Make that make that shooter have to move the puck because the shots not there. And 50% of the times you might even be able to block the shot right merely be able to block the pass coming across. Pomp if the past does come across Nabokov is already read it any party there for the backdoor play. What year your bag on because it there is that that level of communication with the goal isn't cohesion with how coach. Decides to build his is defensive structure because we will play it was with mills here. Where he wanted to shooter outs and he would say take that back doorway to give me the shooter. And you knew and he knew that kind of goes back in in apparel lost what we talked of hope for is that trust factor. Is that when you come down you can make the decision he can make that he knows what you're doing and then boom it's trust ridge has taken a back door I got the shooter now know there's no. I later understood. Canning that wanted to that's been taking that to one wine that you're not giving free shots you're being deceptive you're kind of moving you're giving little. You're giving little jolts to the guy with the puck so he. He also have to push him out push from the outside you always want you always want to shoot out of the bit knowing that your your play. As you birdie talked about a with your goaltender meals for an example. I know that my job to take the back door but I'm not to allow the guy with the parked come down and just take a free shot on Ryan Miller I'm going to be using Matt stick and and and making the player with the puck feel uncomfortable so he's not just walking down and thinking shot the whole way and it's going to be easy you want to be able to move. But knowing that your responsibility is the back door that was one goaltender Nabokov's another goaltender ahead Jose Theodore and Jeff Hackett and and Jocelyn keep I mean I had multiple goaltenders that you need to understand what that goaltenders want. Therefore you'll play the style that they want in certain situations if. Today were NHL freed CN non NFL free agency. What would be your number one area that you want the cirrus to address we'll talk more about that when we return a lot of talk here about defense some people called in about goaltending. We got to get to the Ford's gonna do that when we return because there's twelve of them. Where they got what these guys think it's gators to be GR Sports Radio 550 and MS to you right back. We're back which. Of the instigated it's presented by MP Carol hard. Welcome back investigators. WGR Sports Radio 550 amnesty one thing we love her bouts. Lover on here's retribution. A so all last night Evgeni Malkin. I'm not sure if anybody heard about what I've game Malkin did but. About sixteen minute mark of the first period. Four minutes in the bush say he squares off with Blake Wheeler and this goes back to a game in Pittsburgh when Marcum had a high hit on Wheeler and he basically said he did it out of respect for Wheeler I mean from what you guys think it is. Go ahead Matty. I think it's fantastic to be how's it I think that it speaks volumes. Volume about the character. And I mean not not to use the same word but the respect he has for the game and the way to games played and certain situations and certain things that go on. And traditions with within the game. My duke he goes oh yeah answer Isabel with Wheeler which he knew his comment but he also produced the day he had a heck of a game he boy he. And that's part is that talking to me that's hockey how small can do and get your hands nobody he's second how to fight. Seriously it's called. Gordy Howe hat trick. Com. He he played an amazing game the other night night Heidi really command. You Guinea Malkin this is not his team this is not his style. But you know a lot. Like this their patent each other on the back that's what hockey's a vote. Is is answering the bell. Oh when you do something that's controversial and you stand up. Lockett you know fight their heated if it not his game he's not that's well his game and you know what quite frankly that's not to public wheelers game either but you know what. Two big guys going out at like like Matty said. He he he respects the game and he knew that he had did the answer the bell he did it you know what they move on and they continue play the rest of the game and it's. It was great while most top teams it's another thing and you and we've all been down that road before the teams that win consistently and teams that have that so called culture there were talking vote. You see players that maybe play out of character and what that does for the rest of the guys within your locker room. And that part of that is his own that you you know I individually gonna answer that bell. But he answers the bell knowing that every single guys behind him on that bench. And understanding and it's playing out of character but that's also a sign of of what the elite teams do and you see it year after year. You know when you wanna talk leadership. You know the amazing thing is you this they're they're showing. They're showing the fans the Winnipeg jets fans standing up clapping their hands after the fight I bet half those people are standing because their likes and eight while good for you Malkin for even standing up in answering that they'll be good for you now it's all forgotten night get back Jim Clancy hockey city and according how Patrick. He did yet he had a goal yet he an assistant goals one assessed and a fight and a fight. Heck of a night he's he's not the Eric Lindros like he's he's tied right now I think with seventy points if I'm not mistaken seven points he's tied for second in in league scoring he's right behind. Sidney Crosby for goals Sidney Crosby leader at 34 goals and he's at 31 right now so. Malkin right now is have and are really quiet sneaky great season we are going to do contender pretender. But does this you still. I mean let's say it but you still with Washington a little bit yeah I don't you you know here I I've really really enjoyed watching. Pittsburgh all season long. They've been dominant from start from the start of the season all the way till now. I just believe when you watch Washington start the season they started off they were a little bit iffy. On they weren't anywhere near the one of the top teams in the league at the time and they just continued to grow with the team. They're gonna be a very very difficult team to beat. In a seven game series there is absolutely no weakness on their team. They have superstar power they've got great defense corps that are defensive and puck movers and have won the gold best goaltenders in the league they're going to be a very tough team to play. All right more talked about if today were NHL free agency and not NFL free agency forwards we got to get to forwards are a couple of US phase that we were looking at during the last break. River like some value likes of see what you think. Andrew Peters Craig very Matty Ellis Thursday WGR Sports Radio 515 amnesty these gators.
