His fight and Pete Carroll hard. And good morning welcome to the investigators here on and that's you know on WTR. My name's Jeremy White filling in for Andrew Peters here today with right very good to be here. My first time here excited this is really actually an exciting dad kind of you know let's get myself up a bit today I knew the big guy was coming on Jeremy White guys are Gregor 1130. Come on man. I'm actually I'm actually you know work with a professional today instead of that Peters guys that. By. Andrews in Columbus we're gonna check in with him a bit later sabres and Blue Jackets tonight a it's a clock face off from Columbus at the home and home the first two games of the season. Against the Blue Jackets. And Columbus 42 wins by the way for them they're that crazy sixteen game winning streak. That really set them to the top of the metropolitan and now it's been kind of like a three horse race Columbus Pittsburgh and Washington. That a top three teams in that conference ridges are in the division which is the best and hockey so. Columbus tonight it's a big test the couple prosecute comes in hot he's on like shut out streak so lots to lots to get into this game. Cry when I think about Columbus wanting attention about them. They finished below the sabres last year. They were bad. They started 017. They're really a bad team they fired their coach they bring in torts who is a controversial guy and they get. Results not right away. But but this year so. Interesting kind of match up for me like to see how the Blue Jackets have done it they knew that lot of things talk about what with them they made a big trade at the Jones Johansson trade. And they may coaching change and last year they were supposed to be a team that was gonna pop right lot of talk about one there like a sexy pick. And they roared their terrible. And this year like it's almost like that of the prognostication of the projections for Columbus warrior off because now we're seeing the Blue Jackets and they look pretty gut yeah you know what I look a look at the blue Jack. Right it's literally heads tractor when you think of this season that they had last year and then you then you move into this year they had the fifteen game winning streak. His team is deep. There are deep in talent they're not just run by year you're number one line and that's taking all the way I mean they are four lines deep. They're they're defense like they need some key moves. And the one that sticks out to me the most is they traded away. Their best offense of hockey player and he was only 23. Years old and as ponson you know. I pick Hyperic. Producing goals and points for team and they need a very very difficult decision. To trade away and delete offensive talent who's extremely young to get. Op piece that they desperately needed in Seth Jones and you and you sit there and you look at what what they have now obviously it is worked goat. Tremendous for the Mets actually worked O for both sides because I think. Nashville has benefited from having you ought to also but. They have done some really nice things they've had to take their time. And not rush things they have some older players in in the depends keys in the Paulino is in the Hartnell that are that grind and pounded. But have that skill but. Look at look you can't Matt Atkinson. Yeah political story turned into now. Is it just time like he needed time to let allow him to. Come into the player that he's he's developing into I think this is a very important you know getting prince Saud. I mean coming. Winning multiple Stanley cups with Chicago Blackhawks being in that atmosphere coming to Columbus. And and sharing and spreading. What it takes to win I mean they've done a really nice job assembling his team so far. Well that what they've also done in a nick fully knows another example of this fleet had a pretty down year last year and likely a twelve goals after getting that big contract after a monster year and there was a bit of a knee jerk reaction. To the flee don't contractors at the sale it. Maybe Columbus in a bit off more than they can shooter they gave me money after a big year and then he had only twelve goals last season he's back up over one point he's gonna get probably close to 25 goals and they they have a couple of different forwards that. Are not high picks and if clean always a first round pick. But at Atkinson remains as well not super high picks the they have turned into really nice players ruinous commodity some maybe it's an argument about development. You know set Jones a high pick that that you Hanson trade. You mention him he's got 51 points would Nashville so he's distributing park for them they're doing a a nice job with with Seth Jones on the back and it is day on it's it's a testament to taking a team that does have a lot of young talent and flipping. A strength where Johanneson would've been a strength for them. Because you need more help on your blue line. Thank Ike I can't help but think about. The parallels between the Blue Jackets. And the sabres last to the Blue Jackets appear to be behind schedule after being a bit of a trendy pick the make a bold move. And change coach early I'm not suggesting like they did like last week it would in seven games in the last year. So it if you look at the savers can I can dying. Look at the Blue Jackets I know we would we talk with the sabres rebuild all this we talk a lot about the Blackhawks in the king's. But the Blue Jackets do you have a bit of a model if you will that hang on. Make the right one trade and look how different your team can be for for your one year to John zarrella and other players all that much differently but. Buying in. Listen I mean. They have players on this team that are skilled but play with sand paper they play the game properly you named them. Net fully know Brandon side you have branded debate and Steve you have Scott Hartnell you keep going down the line and they sprinkle in this. This youthful talent and an act in San Weinberg. Stand on it. If they got a lot of all of a sudden you pick ups and Gagne who moderate now it's eight you know before the season started. He he was having a hard time trying to final hole. Columbus gives them an opportunity he's been playing on the fourth line but playing on the power play. You're sixteen goals and forty points and is a plus nine. That's how do you get better you make small little tweaks to your line up. To strengthen it and you hope that ghost trades worker. But I think you bring a book appoint their when when it comes to building a roster for the sabres have built with a lot of youth. And most of their players are still pretty young Bristol line in all Riley's mean these guys are young even Banta-Cain is already gone yet they're all under 25 and you've got some veterans on this team mixed in but if you look at Columbus and what they did the big bold trade you mentioned Gagne. Do Vince he's another guy they get they get him in the Nash trader. From the Rangers on the way so what they have is. You look at Columbus you look at young talent. But I do see veterans there that that's not a team of kids the sabres to me still seem like. A lot of what they are is a team of re the young players there that are on the way up. And the European old guard on the way out in the transition is has been happening. Not as fast as many people like at that happened and and I happen to be one of the like I'm frustrated I'm sure the team is frustrated but like. Columbus has. What sprinkled in the right players. Montreal that this is well you see around a legal lot you signed the right guy gradual loss who's gonna give Brad jalopy shot. Which you have to have in that spot is a team that you already feel has a pretty good room Mary bold move at the started it absolutely absolutely people wondered if that was gonna work out it worked out great and fragile offense can we take a chance on this guy those moves always seem to happen. Those PTO deals with a guy can't seem to find a home. If you've already got a lot of good stuff in place and I think. The sabres are now this coming off season they'll be in a spot. To be willing to try moves like that. Right bring in some more leadership may be swing the right trade but also take your chances on a couple of those signings they can help whether it's on the on the front and on the back and like you need to be able to make. The right moves even though this team is pretty far out of the playoff picture right now. Don't think it has to stay that way I don't think that it's drastic changes that need to be mate. Look at where they are right now. It's been actually a season that you know a lot of people would like to forget with the injuries that happened at the start of the year. And they're just does not seem to be the chemistry. In the locker room they're not. They're not showing on the ice they're playing together as a team. You look at you look at this Columbus Blue Jackets team you asked to hand the sabres beat this team next year are they there and and when you look at the sabres lineup might think that there's a lot of very good hockey players. Now. Now you need to start to tweak the lineup here and there they've brought in that Sam gone game that turned out. Forty points in in 64 teams you know you haven't sacked Warren's tee who they blocked owed about the college ranks who now has 39 points and rookie defenseman east plus eighteen are you kidding me like you're just continue to go down the line and look at the players that they brought and they have you with. They have the older. You know leaders. And they are really bringing it together they're there. To win hockey games this team wants to win and there are there and bury that situation. There's lot of waste ultimately get there an and one thing the Columbus does they score a lot they've had multiple games for. 78. Goals a ten goal barrage against Montreal with the was there back epic for into the back up it's not Carey Price the other guy these were ten on him. They've had monstrous explosion of goals and I can think back but the sabres when they would chase goaltenders on the net thoughts on that happens as much anymore. The other thing Columbus has its on the I want from the sabres going for. Before this rebuild the sabres were they were out possessed a lot the other team had the puck a lot. That is still a story for the sabres and that comes down to the Blue Line. So if you look at. Can like next year's sabres beat this year is Columbus. I said the does not to take drastic changes there might be one drastic change and that book that might be the Johanneson for Jones to. Tim Murray talked about it at that on deadline day he tried to make a hockey trade there was a hockey trade out there that the team did wanna make. Can he make a hockey trade this offseason that is as. Drastic maybe not. Names but have as big an effect as the Johanneson for Jones deal but that's like event McCain's team's gonna come up samurai and arts the ain't gonna come up you're gonna talk about. Guys that you have you're gonna have to create a significant. You're gonna have to trade a significant basket asset on your team right now. To be able to acquire that big asset on defense the reality is do you want to trade away Sam Reiner. No you don't know I think there's still a lot of upside and Sam's game. Physically. Mentally everything I think he is going to be a really good player and actually bought. When you look at Columbus they made a decision they traded their number one guy point producing guy. And he was only 23 years old date they sat their and said we need. Take it to bolster our back and so we have to make a bold move they made a very bold move where a lot of people were sit here. Scratching their heads saying I don't know who won this deal. Now you look at it a year later I think both teams. It worked very well for both teams to Nashville needed to scoring. Columbus needed the defense of part of it and it's worked out very well and you look at you look at Columbus Blue Jackets and say. Do they have you leaked. Offensive talents and and the answer is no they don't have big name guys. But they do things right they do things the same way you talk a boat torts. He's a very tough coach he is and you will do what he says or you do not play. Maybe people receive a torts and he out. What are his welcome pretty quickly they won sixteen games this season and soon afterwards kinda had a little bit of a middle extra it's like eight neat yeah and the players went to him and said. You gotta be nicer house you gotta be a little more positive like this I think this is a a common theme around sportswear younger players the next generation of players. You don't every generation of kids whether you're talking professional sports gorgeous kids in any school are gonna be different than the previous generation you know up at just how works. So torch has banned fire and brimstone his whole career but even he's admitting to kind of changing a little bit yeah and I think you're just. As a coach you can't have your foot on the gas pedal. Driving all the time it's of very long season it's a very long demanding mentally and physically. Wrote a season sometimes you need to be able to as a coach identify where your team's. And pull back yes went when he hit the gas when he when he when people like it's another example of like comparing. This debt last year's sorry this year sabres. We do here next your seat pursue this year's Blue Jackets at the end miles Moore returns. As as head coach which I mean I kind of expect him to return. Well hacked he's gonna get fired you know nobody. Called he called Jack go to the other other today because the may well have bad turn over and now I love the talk everybody's. On a Twitter fire an op while we got to get ready you can't do that Jackie had two goals and assists you can do that you can do that Jack of course. But but you're gonna notice and you. To what degree. It's not just about jackets about every player that the point I just brought up about. Torts that's a team that's in the playoffs at a sixteen game winning streak you think like everything's rosy right it's not the players had to approach their coach and say. Buddy torts help us out you know so. I don't know if Dan files my. This let's say this season ends and the sabres go to the finish line at 500 they don't completely ballpark they just kind of play the way they are in their exit meetings. Do this every player talked to coach in an exit meeting to have a player talk the coach and the GM the coach of the GA we're gonna get together to talk a every player's gonna be evaluated but so is the head coach of the hockey team and miles mystique you're gonna have at the end of the year to Marie's got a decision to make too why believe that this guy is the right coach for my team and it doesn't come down to just whether or not one player likes a more if none of the players like and the question is will they respond. And if the answer to that is no. I've got a problem absolutely hate them but they respond and it starts to work on the Internet like in Mike Babcock is not exactly beloved and there's plenty of examples of coaches that are locked. Torts. Joel Quenneville I I've heard stories about Joel Quenneville soul. Folder in Seoul obnoxious that the players like one family is talking about but it Wingate. So comes on whether you're gonna win games and with the sabres can be involved in the heart and as young stars the answer is absolutely yes. But he's gonna in maybe it's a learning experience for him and for the young players like this guy's pushing me he wants me to be better. But from miles beside it also has to be I'm pushing them I have to know when you're going to say when I I I literally it you know I IE. I sit there and kind of shake my head a little bit with the way that you know you have to treat a lot of these players with kid gloves nowadays Howard you would age nineteen off me and I was first of all I was hardest worker in the room I was extremely happy to be there. A guy a IE I sat beside. These veterans in the locker room I I was not the wind that was going over to turn on the music and switch it to Disco or whatever that ball ball ball the same song to go down for ED am yet they are trying to you know dance music here's the thing. I never touched I never touched the the stereo until I was 28 I mean. I I felt and and respected the process I respected the elder people on the team I respected coaches. If they had something to say I would listen I may not agree with that night meet the state of that. You know think in my head that guys an absolute you know. But I would take the information and trying induce something positive with it I just fine right now these guys these young guys can't say anything to me he got to talk to him with kid gloves. All not what I I look at right now Mike get wildness of very good hockey coach okay. You're talking about having the team respond to him well you know what if they don't respond to this dying in a tie this is that this team to coach killer. Because they're very good hockey coach. Contrary to what people think to very good hockey coach is very intelligent he's very Smart. And if he can't get out what he wants there's a bigger issue in the locker room. That that I that OK that might be true and as you know. Coaches end up paying for that quite a lot absolutely you know you're experienced. Public coaches were fired mid season all you while you played on a team. I've I've if the if you had a few Lindy Ruff was he fired what you were here no no okay no he was like oh I think the year after okay. You know in a room like. You might look around and say if a coach pays for a you might have half the room look around Nelson like. Man you guys really blew it you you cost us a good coach maybe in Boston they feel that way the stopper. Respondent Claude Julien. And half the guys in the room upset which lost the good coach because these four guys didn't like them to respond to them via the that ends up being the reality. Didn't like constructive criticism. Some players they just do not like to hear. The negativity in their game things that are trying to make them there better individually but also better and better for the team. And the reality is the guys that you don't want in your team. Those are the guys you do not want on your team you look at Columbus Blue Jackets and you ask yourself who's the star. Can't packets and he's the one who went to the all star game. If thirty dollars I know we got thirty goals I'm not talking about this year he's playing great he's dynamic little player East Point. Not superstar. That being said that whole team hallways. Their offensive. Offensively gifted to one highest scoring teams in the league you know what they are. That terrible defense ports in that locker room he does not care if my diary now backed him packets and does not wanna play defense he will not quite. Our our team on our team I heard Howard talked the other day and act as tonight this is not football power. Jack cycle needs to play defense. He is in a position where he how often his responsibility. Is to play defense and how often it is the in the offensive. You can on how you're just let Jack do we want to let the other four guys do all the defense it's not the way this game works. He needs to be accountable like everybody else if Jack Michael does not play strong defense you think the other guys are gonna look at that they'll Alan Jackson and unlock it and it either. Maybe. I've. When you are a player that has ban we we talk about this whatever sport if you are star. And your star in college work your star in juniors. And you come to the NHL this is part of why. I know a lot of guys like it win. Deride the Boston juniors it's like it's why people didn't like dvds right could Jimmy be easy he goes ecology place for years and then. He decides thanks for draft to meet Nashville thanks for trade from right sabres but I'm gonna do what I'm gonna do what's best for me. And I'd and a problem that but I. But I know a lot of people that a lot of players resented that kind of attitude because they thought what are represented was he thinks he's too good so follow the process. And but the actual the process is is what's given to him through this TBA sure and I did it right did you get did it lightly and I know he was following and I agreed that I I do agree that. What what ends up being the real test for easy is not how we handles himself off the ice from a business standpoint how he handles himself on the ice like. All he's entitled to his teammates are gonna like and the knock in a play foreign. And then they meet in the locker and say yeah that was where that you did that but dot communities skates has fought off every nine plays defense in his complete player that stuff gets washed away pretty quickly so it whatever happens off the ice. That whatever happens happens it's when you get on the ice that the people are gonna see it and decide whether or not they buy into US team. So do you think other teams in the league we're looking watching the Jimmy VC thing. I think they were a lot of immigrants whose interest I think think NHL players and in the summertime her are looking and I wonder where this gets in ago. I think they are also wanting that absolutely there they they don't know why they're saying that. Zach I can make my team better yes and I want him on my team he's gonna make us better. Bring him in soul and it's fun in this conversation moves all the way from Columbus set to how players adapt as young players. I always felt during that easy process that every single player should should support him because player should want powerful players. They should want every single player that takes advantage of not even taken advantage of the system but be aware of the system and use it in the right way to get. Money term whether it's the best situation for him but to me that was always the right place. I'm not just gonna play for national because national thinks I should nationals not out for me nationals out for Nashville. I'm Jimmy he's got to be opera myself so when a tangent we got to Jimmie he's the great okay. I was didn't view on the young players before we get our first break your. It has to be a tall. Task to get through to a guy. That's never ever been challenged you do you have to learn to take constructive criticism. You know. It's it's totally feasible that anybody in any job who's been good at it gets a new boss and then make a guy says that boss. Yeah. Sure blood you'll be out of here in five minutes you gotta break that guy. All of that habit because I think it's any business any industry that a super talent. Could have that attitude in maybe attitude adjustment is needed for some of these young players but you gotta find the right got to do. There's gonna be young talent that moved through the amateur ranks that dominate the game. Not learn how to play other parts of the game because there's so dominant at you know. The offensive side of it as they continue to move up they go. You know let's at a college. Dominate in college do the same thing. Not learn the small. Pieces to another side of the game which is the defensive game because they're so dynamic and then you get to this. This other side this this this National Hockey League you're taking the best players around the world for Arab all these different countries. Everybody has different assets she never wanna take away what. A certain player brings. Don't have to say anything more will look at Jack Michael super dynamic skills I mean. Top ten in the National Hockey League dynamics deals. I don't think as a young player he's ever learn how to play defense. Maybe been a Saturn he's been a Saturn in his whole life I don't think he's ever learn how to play yet how. How to play defense well he's been so good at the junior and in the minor league ranks that he is he does not play defense is not in the he's not in the. And I'm guilty of this and I think a lot of cirrus has so I'm times news is on me. I get to. Maybe I get too enamored with flashy offensive game I think we goes or war and the coach asks readers say like. Now there's fundamentals which have to be I think about all the quarterbacks coming on this year's NFL draft. And a lot of them have been freak shows and talent to Shawn Watson just let a national championship guess what you're not a clowns anymore it's another level up. You're gonna have to do little things whether that's changing your footwork or whoever might be that you're gonna have to do things to alternately round out your game and make it better. Instigators I'm in for Edgar Peters this is this is schools is Monica I got a fancy opal I'm excited about that. Dana Garrett at any best part data Gary oval something buckle missed any airs on the way Darren Gregor 1130 check in with Andrew from Columbus as well as we roll along thanks for being here investigators. Continues here and amnesty and WGR Sports Radio bucket to. We're back with. Instigate us presented by MP Carol hard. Welcome back to the investigators here on MS Sheehan WGR Sports Radio 550 Jeremy White filling in for Andrew Peters today. Alongside Gregory May and Danny your joins us in studio with a thing. Not much or just drive by and he wasn't ounce soda pop to. This is an AS got us here any law and are you worried I gotta say Jeremy is first day and risk is always series the solid. Part of that it appeared to hello and welcome to be with the guys Andruw is in Columbus gonna check in with him a little later in the show. Darrent Gregor his weekly spot at 1130 as well stay tuned for that right gave one of the questions we ask in the for segment was. Ten next year sabres beat this year's Columbus the Blue Jackets finished below the sabres last year right. They made bold moves and they've found their modes or whatever is some of their players that a bad seasons have kind of responded. And now they appear to be on the way to the playoffs. 42 wins like they are. Their their good team that they're gonna make the playoffs and they made a big jump. They did make a big jump I don't. I was surprised driving and listening and hearing that was effective pain atlas points. I think you know the one thing revs were just mentioning in the break with. I talked to John Davidson. I played junior and he's the president other team. Jeff rumors an old friend he's a platelet play guys work their Waltz like kind of follow the law mixture evenly and stay on top of but this year. Last year remember that body injuries to witches and yeah hurt them a lot. Bobrovsky was her life he's been outstanding this year most most wins as a franchise goaltender. So he's been unbelievable results last three games as a these organs shut out rejected goaltending and everything comes together and also that health side of it. But the big part to be told me was was. They're minor league team in the American art league Cleveland team won the American art color. And they've got an influx of four players winners that won. And now came in and help. Elevate that team give them more energy one of them is Zach weren't skewed defenseman who's really have a great season of UB. Rock the boat rookie of the year and yet Josh Anderson's got a fourteen goals medic can all over worked and and Lucas has and I think when you look at this team when you can in in infuse those type young players energy players that it one. It with a mix that you mentioned some other veterans guys from Reno Hartnell. To Penske and so forth I think if it reads very well for team and they came out of the gates at a pop off training camp from my year. And oh boy. It's amazing when you confidence and consistency comes together enough of that team's doing now. Confidence and consistency. I think the two things that lack the most with the sabres right I think I I do believe that they have a good product on the ice they just have not. Figured. Some things out whether it starts inside that dressing room that resonates onto the ice. Well let me give you one stat that. What I heard the static kind of struck me that you know you talk a competence consistency youth the sabres fans have watched the sabres blow third period leads this year but the number one team in league. Blowing third period leads is Toronto. The weeks and when I heard that I thought maybe youth is a thing it goes Toronto Calgary buffalo. All three of those teams are led by yeah younger players ups so if you wanna. Talk about like the process of winning in completing games the fact that the top three teams in blown leads. Are primarily I think younger led teams it's got to be something. It all right I agree I think you a lot of it is confidence. You know hole on learning the way to win others. To have successes sometimes alerted way I mean you have to lose in order to get success. It's frustrating I mean I was just in in Colorado for or of the road show with. Some of the guys in the I've met some of the players come off the bus after practicing University of Denver they practice. You know I see you know Jack talked to him a little bit the all seemed upbeat this was after the break. You know it you talk to Reinhart you talk to you ought to talk to these guys but they all seem to be very confident in where they were going. And then melee and hit it can't in Colorado let the game of their downstream up them in games you know they try to fight back and then they go to Phoenix lose but. The team just to me. When you have a disconnect in some regards in that dressing room and and I heard Brian Gionta said this a couple times as a captain Fred Giles. That's not a good thing to say about a team in your in your dressing especially cap. Me being a former cabinet Selassie wanna say. But it is what it is and now you look at the last fifteen games is really to me realizes it is an evaluation period for next year. That's exactly what it is and when we talk a boat you know you talk to vote for on that that's amazing that you brought up that's that yeah they are they struggled the most. In third period losses the sabres have to be up there also. Two very youthful teams that are going to make mistakes and once said that that buffalo or Toronto Maple Leafs are gonna wind up this year knowing how that expectation. It's a vote understanding. That both teams have gone through a little bit suffering we've gathered some very high end pecs. The future of both organizations. Are very bright in the in order to get better I hate to say it. You have to you have to go through making mistakes you have to make mistakes to understand. What you're doing wrong so you can be better for the future and right now buffalo. I think has a real tough time with understanding how to manage the puck. And how to play when your playing with the lead in the third period here's kind of a trick question global view. How old were you when you stopped learning about the game. But did you get to a point where you you you've peaked at thirty stats I'd in my opinion. I know that I'd like Ernie and I. I I mean. That is a crazy question I'd like I've never been asked that question all you have I tell you this use by the time you go out of the league when I was 37 years old I was still learning. When I was like getting better and it was not gotten better but I was still learning there's there's so much to learn in this team. And it's how you can. Take that that constructive criticism that information. And being able to take that information and and use it for the good in and trying to make yourself Butler but don't you think too as a young team Craig that the way it well when union dues the way they've lost some times from having leads mean that's the office we'd lose your threes at Arizona. Europe and other teams to Nutley new games and losing. Mean you work so hard to get there the notes to that the practice all year long do games. And when you have that you think it's in the bag that is yeah you got to remember those nights boy you know what here's the thing you look at Chicago Blackhawks three Stanley cups in the last what 67 years. I mean. Look before that. Did they go through some growing pains with those young box and in Chicago absolutely that it did they lose some month to three goalies in the third period you better believe it but they understood. Moving forward how to win hockey games and there's a way to win hockey games it's not just like we're just gonna go out there and we're gonna. Know there's a system that you know that's that's implemented. By the coach you stick to that you understand how to manage the puck went to fore check went to maybe stay back. How do not throw pucks away you know there's there's. It it's just hockey one on one I think that I as you get older you get a little bit offering comp and more confident and you make better decisions. 8030551808552. But if these are former let's get a call and here we got Dominic in Massachusetts. Dominique good morning your audience the gators. Good morning guys they were me I'd two point actually I didn't like yours and earlier. I feel like did he get a lot of heat for the irrigate for online not that the that the prolonged time. Mostly gold circulate when you Sawyer and open out thank I would open it's not a continent the weak side Winger. And like you guys are paying these high and forwards that probably never had to. Plate he don't go forward. It's eat yet that I below he would be. My point is. I don't break on the video by. It looked like their point man on man. If you have a lot of young players. That are not. Re acquaint you don't have that Aaliyah why you playing man on man in college. We are playing man on man if you get it if you're one step in the wrong direction are you get the it's going to be a good scoring opportunity yet NHL level appear on the wrong side of the popped. And here in beat the not the puck mean you're not I'm just wondering why. You've noted the point man on matters that only certain situations are wondering. If it be a little more forgiving if they're playing it down I'll hang up my response back. Politics don't. While the problem is they're not playing man on man they are playing zone 99%. Of teams in the National Hockey League are playing zone defense you know com. My biggest issue that I've had with the sabres this year is I find the others on. This the decision making. Is so low they do not feel confident and and shooting note and putting pressure on guys and having other guys react off them. There either they just look a little bit. You know the forwards. What do we talk about defense let's get something straight lot of doors are losing their son Steve guys. I mean we're talking team defense is a problem not the defensemen are problems team defense is a problem in general. Well let me ask you this because Columbus is second best in the league in goals against number one as Washington. But the two teams that score all the goals are also the best defensively when I talk about the sabres not having what it takes on the Blue Line. Most of the time when I'm talking about is the ability to get it out of their zone like go to the other end of the ice and that's what Columbus in Washington do so well. The and it's kind of like the reverse of the old statement which is you know the best. Offense is good defense it's it's the opposite right now and hockey the best defense is having a go off which is always getting the puck out always moving it. And to me that's the problem the sabres have they do not transition from one zone to the next. Really well at all mean Jack Michael carries it out a lot. He's one of the best players he's attorneys own players when you he does that he carries a mile to acts you don't see that to an outside of Michael getting it from the the d.s own in the offensive zone with possession it doesn't happen with this team all of them. Okay let me ask you this on my watch is sabres player and and and Jeremy says that I see other teams and there are. You know there folder transition from the back in the front and that's why maybe your questions of the the decision making you're saying by defense from the puck movement by defenseman. Where the forwards on the situation I was a winner I'd be back in my right side back on the boards looking for an outlet pass. They're not flying is all. The have to get tape to tape I don't see tape to tape as much as she boards shot aboard dump votes I don't see tape to tape that's what good teams do. Crack with a note question. That has been a major problem we're talking when our defense even have time in space they have control the clock. A lot of times are not giving get in the past two or forwards with speed do you generate that that that offense the talks being dumped off the border chip off the boards. There's just not enough puck movement and and winner defensemen are making those plays to the forwards with speed. There's never that second attack meaning we need those followers follow up yet all right fourth defense manner that that fourth man jumping into the rush to add to the attack it's not just the three forwards. Sabres Blue Jackets tonight. Sergey Bobrovsky has a shut out streak that is close to the franchise record. Basically here's how works across key streak in three minutes and sixteen seconds they'll have the longest in league this year. In basically a period 1928. He would match the franchise record. But to get the NHL record for shut out streak he's got to go to app or game that's who she's got a together and say with Arizona he's got to shut the sabres out this weekend twice. And then their next game another half game to get the ultimately that's the basics that so what you're saying is he as the jets offense I've. Well I mean that that's the way he's playing the way he's played the way way away Columbus is playing in the way the sabres are playing at this point in the season. They have only legit chance to shut the sabres don't if they can stay out of the box. And play five on five. No question have a chance shadow sabres twice the Altay if they're in the box sabres are hot right now at our our latest like them. They traded for him from Philadelphia he was there was he was Bobrovsky. And that to what the three headed monster that beat the sabres in the playoffs a couple of years ago and Bobrovsky was just kind of like a guy in Columbus traded for him via third round pick. And Israel jobs if they use the flyers the flyers how we've helped you and now. But it goaltenders have the flyers had in the last fifteen like they've had more goaltenders and any seemingly all the treatment for Mason wasn't that made eagle there they trade Bobrovsky to the Blue Jackets for three draft OK with an exit went after yet it was after that they got Mason but three draft picks it was a second a fourth. And another form I played with mace into an. He he needs he came off the rookie rookie of the year so Calder cup Calder cup and then the very next year world war that the team was not a very good team they struggled and you know the goaltending obvious when you have it when you have a team that struggled. Your goaltending and a struggle you I mean it's just it is the way it is when he's taken getting peppered. On that we've got we're gonna won't work already to. Hello Jake. No object he's not there sergeant mr. Beckham holds if you connect your phone all right. But you that you're talking about her bras you know one of the things that you know when you look at this team you know I guess. Cordero went all mobile John I mean he's he's. Energy guy he he wants it done his way. I guess he sent every player in the offseason letter. The vote be ready get in shape and I guess for process got a real tough when he is like like you've got to be your guy you gotta be this that. He lost seventeen pop it's and you know on it was a pretty good chip again some time referral from what I hear Columbus. And the court he's done this year but every everything that I guess in that after that he sent cleats players said. We wanna be the best third period in human heart. Which you know all the way they play the game and finished the game their heavy and aggressive fore check team. It's worked O four and so they've been altitude and and with the influx of young kids I think it's really made it. They're physical. They're fast they play the game right they get it done offensively. But they care more about defense I mean. At the heck of a hockey team. Right Denny exercises I applaud his neighborhood and it I don't male pop in after Colin Powell check in with thought Edgar Peters in Columbus with the team they play home and home with Columbus this weekend. And hair trigger at 1130 so stick with us. We are the instigators here on MS Sheehan WGR. Your eyes darting eyes. Fight over another to swell of noise that you realize that we Indian primary. Might flights. Any kind of jumps up on the doorway demand blows open and Downey goes. Hurt himself pretty bad I think people his hamstring. I'm listening in my here and I argued hears charges cover the right. Over the place. A whole minutes but. It's not gonna do and do it. Members backwards with the rough like that you know okay. We're going after this. That's going to be fun one investigators back here on MS Sheehan WGR Saturday. Saturday's game first intermission and you'll see that Colby on little gold. On the yeah Ottawa fight game I was asked to. You know. Re tell my side of the story I was in the building and I in the 100 global seated directly across from the sabres tunnel. So what when Drury went on the tunnel I could see he was going to the room is not in good shape. And in one night one night that was a Saturday beyond lone goal. Great. You're in the league had to happen raw hole leader has to be talking about it. I mean that that's what happened. Back in the day when you took. Trying to take liberties with. The top players on your team there was going to be a major push back. And in for an example I was with Montreal I got called up for one game to play against buffalo because something happened that the game before. And they were gonna address it we had. You know five of the of five fighters on the ice they put me on the ice I wasn't really a fighter at the time I was 21 years old kid from the minors I got called up for one game played 12. Got kicked out and got sent down that night. Memories are great speaker wedge. Like defending teammates so the penguins in the jets we gotta buy sell trade here for summer buffalo sports. Penguins in jets mix it up because Malkin hit Wheeler with a head shot yeah and the jets one of their. Revenge so things got a little bit messy Malcolm and we fought. Tom's sister you know. With a dirty hit on up on a Winnipeg player he got his suspension he'll sit for four games. Sosa Speedo for games what do you think buy sell trade this four game suspension for Tom to steal. I the I am going. I'm gonna sell it all day long he your first the ball. Arm I totally understand exactly what happened here I understand that. The Pittsburgh Penguins who do not have any toughness in their lineup but all there there are skilled hockey team they plea. With speed and skill and not whether one of the best in the league. They knew that there is going to be pushed back from Winnipeg is that's just what happens is as the Malkin Wheeler fight doesn't that accomplish that yes but they're yet to be more. But none at all but you're making sure that if something does happen. That you have a guy on your bench that will certainly take care of things and some. And Toms the Tito's this deal has been in the minors with Pittsburgh for. For our a couple of years now they call him up to make sure that if something does happen. We will answer the bell well enough and now here's how about Malkin. Stepping up there he doesn't fight he's fought like maybe once on his NHL career he steps up. Takes the beating sits there that you guys at pat each other on the back and you move forward great effort great for Yevgeny Malcolm just I love that I mean. Just answer the bell you you made a dirty hit the guy wants to get some frustrations out you do what you gotta do to stand up yourself which is what. Malkin did and now you look it's stiff TO. He got suspended for four games just because of his name because of the situation even being called up. I think that's right and there's a funny story about the Steve dog so. I watched the dead spin had a breakdown of this game and called a cycle of stupidity of what happened like. You know you hit our guy will hit your guide Daniel had our guys that think the cycle goes on and on. And they had a link to Tom to steal it if you need to know anything about the steel watch this and they show it's a steal back when he's at the flyers and he's chirpy and Brad Richards on the bench with a range of time and he's telling Richard basically like I'm gonna kill you get on that ice and going to kill you. And they cut to Richards and his side of the story is Richard starts and like all look at the guy here's a fantasy camp this guy's a lot of the NHL for a day. Great congratulations bought a thanks for coming to our league you know like. All the times you hear about how guys like since the oh stop it's like this from happening and they show up and they deliver those hits via I. It's it's always wanted to be hauled the great players the super skilled players want a guy like that on their team but as soon as the guys on the other side it's like. With sideshow Scott belong here yeah he's a fan a silly. Is that the new wave of the NHL. That I have these guys that they got to not have the guys but if you in a game do something to us. You're gonna have to call up from the minors and it will there's going to be hell to pay is that what's gonna happen I mean. Probably just he does not address the playoffs we know that Orioles. Right that's one thing that's guaranteed now. All right instigators continues we'll check in with Andrew from Columbus sabres and Blue Jackets tonight dome is Darren drag on the way at top 1130 as well for his weekly spot. You know dance from the NFL get his thoughts on Thompson's ego as well instigators continuing from Columbus next with. Riverbank and meet Jeremy White filling if Iran through here on MSG and WGR.
