I -- -- it here we want it chat with just corn and spring football going on for the university at buffalo and in. Big things to bring up one -- -- planning of the Ralph next season. Too there's a gridiron conversation event coming up next month Brian Kelly. Notre Dame coach and gentle loss will be in town that you be center for the arts so we welcome Jeff Quinn to the show Jeff it's Howard -- I don't. Our review it's our morning coach. Yes and as sound as yours is well appreciate you coming on Jeff thank you so if you are. You're in spring football all right so I hired just tell me exactly what are some of the questions what is the thinking things are gonna be looking out of the coaching staff in the spring practices and eventually the spring game. Have we we're already in a week three we are used to put borrow weeks together fifteen. Opportunities spoke to you know to go back to the same things -- we've talked from the day I first took this position and you know the destination will never change every year you know it's about put ourselves in my position it's. The people chips chips train our kids. You know to be better -- football -- he's smarter. More determined than that and I think we've got ourselves it's a collective group of young men that are more mature more responsible. And and I understand the things that. You know that are expected of them each and every day they take -- depict themselves on that field and that's collectively we get some not tremendous. You know match ups in on that field you know on both sides of ball and even include special tapes. How much do you think the end of last season can carry over and have a positive effect on the next season. Glad dictators a lot of carry over in terms of confidence that think they understand that. You know we spent a lot of time you know talking on the defense to -- the ball ball pursuing the football. You know to Guatemala to cold Turkey mindset. You know -- our kids you don't get to the ball carrier. Derive they're the bad move and get the doggone thing has separated from the ball period early in the season we could not get a turnover. You know or should I say it take away from a defense to -- employment. You know on what we found was we weren't getting to the ball carrier you know every guy spread than what we've found is dead -- created some opportunities. You know taken the ball away on the offensive side is about just sustaining your effort to react go to -- -- And those little little functional and in and -- and they take into. You know a lot of pride -- -- I think what they saw last year of the three four games they were able to secure some -- And so they know now what the expectations are and you know it -- it took us a little bit longer and I cared -- You know discussed but -- -- it was great just get those wins and I think it's really tears over to the winter conditioning unit now in the spring ball. One of the key aspects I think -- the late season run certainly was with -- the hottest play Jeff -- and you know obviously we're gonna bring them up because he's a local kid and people or is it didn't see how the the local kids do -- you B is -- his job to lose. -- I don't how how would you phrase his stance and. Well he you know he's he was solid you know down the stretch. And he was ready. You know like I keep seeing you know his growth and has potential you know each and every day he's come at a better leader in on our program. I'll take a full command -- and that's -- I think what you do is is the head football coach evaluate every single player. You know it certainly that position is very very important to play the odd man. You know I think do you always go in there -- They need to look at every single -- which you can't just say one kid. You know -- he's going to be the answer that there's a collective -- effort by everybody that's got to take place so. Need to develop young kids you got to have great leadership began to have guys that are in a back up keep backup role position. You know to keep terrorists their spirits up and understand it is open competition every day either. The most competitive and again gives you great effort and determination made those plays are going to be the -- you can get to shot -- You know I just feel strongly that we got for good quarterbacks in Joseph who's clearly. You know only improve student in a lot of cases so. It's going to be excited to see these guys go out there compete here and have a chance to see dead -- Saturday you know April 20 at 2 o'clock at UB stadium you know we're gonna allow all these -- to. Compete and play into. And I think those has got a good handle on what we're we want things and and how he's taking care thing. That the date for the spring game all we get to the gridiron event Jeff. Talk about planning game at the Ralph and that that's. I don't I think it's a fabulous idea I know I mean you guys -- you can play temple you play at at the link right and and I think did you play UMass at Gillette Stadium. Right so you've got guys have been an NFL still is but what do you think it means to be able to play game at the -- for your program appear players. -- -- and it's going to be tremendous. An opportunity outside of watched a couple of games and and the ralphs and that we did -- Cincinnati you know I think when we were. You know first gotten that chance to go down there they had -- played one game. You know in you know browns stadium down there and then you know one we were. In the middle part three years stint at Cincinnati we scheduled Oklahoma. You know we weren't able to coach in a game because Bryant took the job at Notre Dame in particular buffalo but. You know they played it in I think they secured about 60000 people. So it's it's a great venue we -- -- at Gillette Stadium that day we went there -- -- just to -- it -- understand them -- gaining weight myself and so this -- big time you know proud athletics and in a professional sports stadium and I think the fans enjoy it. There's a lot goal and that they take -- did you enjoy it and certainly to bring -- QB football. Two to Ralph is just going to be excited for everybody includes. The the other thing Jeff -- ask an obvious is the event coming up next month and you mentioned Brian Kelly he's going to be in town after just a tremendous season. At Notre Dame for the gridiron conversation may eighth at UB center for the arts what is that all about. East you know -- I saw each other before the national championship game and I screwed out there acidic. -- -- what about -- buffalo. He says what are we gonna do. He has some luck goldfish and with you because so don't worry about that failure should not also -- football. And nationwide massive -- have to be in May assume when you and I as head coaches cannot be on the road recruiting because NCAA. Rules and he says that picked it sounds like a good idea. Civil appreciate your time and you know and then you don't know when that you know he was willing to do that you know because of our relationship didn't. We spent 41 years you know every single day. It'll build and three different programs to a championship level. You know and in you know how important coaches are to each other. In haven't those you know professional relationships and then also. You know we were very close up proportionally in -- both our families -- wives or children. You know vicious it's a great opportunity for me to to have an opportunity just -- To share our stories our experiences that we enjoy it for 41 years for our fans in the community western new York and for him you know. Breakaway from his busy schedule concern at least he's being requested to do a lot of things and a lot of different places that they can just going to be a great treat. Cup football Favre knows a lot of Notre Dame stands out there and you know we tell everybody you can be Notre Dame Candace is wrong to your buffalo and so. Tells -- and recognized nationally for all those. You know -- doubters that that are you know part of this business and mean to be Associated Press coach of the year I mean they don't get any better that. But Everett of the ticket information on that a second Jeff thanks for coming on good luck with the spring practice is always gonna talk concern not enjoy the rest of the offseason so to -- -- -- -- It is not a coach there's information Jeff mentioned spring into April 20 Saturday April 22 PM you -- Steve it's open to the public.
