805. Wednesday Howard -- Matthew each year NW -- joining us on the AT&T hotline -- president Russ Brandon good morning -- how are you sir. Howard are invited to an hour welcome back to you would have beyond that don't take it personally that the it wasn't known to have it wasn't you was a virus you know I'd never had nothing to keep me away from you -- other than a virus. That make you feel any better the brighter than sound of guns out. The spirit was there it was into the spirit was intended in a positive positive way. Obviously -- first awful talked about the game -- paid by the is is it nice to know that we can actually do a segment with -- to ask you necessarily who's gonna be the next owner when you get a get a new stadium. I can't tell him. So let's not vote give the then you gotta talk about the New England game. You know you guys obviously had a great week last week so much the big win over Detroit the the owners approved the sale of the goal is are there Sunday was electric atmosphere in and the game was played. How much -- of a setback things were going pretty good there last week that what was is set what was Sunday's setback like for the organization. Where you don't heart I think it's been you know tremendous period in time you know for our entire community you know when he we look at it and see what's happened over the last. Six months and then haven't all come down you know -- Wednesday when the vote occurred and then on Thursday the sale closed. And ever community. Embraced by the Pakula family. If it doesn't get any better than what's happened. You know over the past. Period of time but you know -- you know dubbed the pregame everything we know after the game obviously big game division game for us and you know on the field and it was disappointing. No other way to put it. You know we have to as I've mentioned to Germany last week to division goes through new England and has for a decade much like the division went through the bills in the ninety's. In until we can knock off the champs. -- you know we have a lot of ways ago. How far away or close argued that something we talked about a lot with you over the years. We don't use the jets and Miami is gage games we use New England as you just mentioned that on the division. So based on what you saw Sunday. How far close are you. Well you know when you look at it. In you look at big payment in totality -- both teams had the same number of plays 66. We had the almost the exact same time of possession. But we turned the ball over three times and three to zero margin in turn -- and if you look at history. Since 2002. With the patriots have never lost a game where -- plus three in the turnover ratio. And you know it we had 191 downs say it's 42 but we gave them 51 downs via panel. And it's tough to win in that environment with a penalty situation and you know albeit some of them questionable. And with the turnover ratio and that you know on the other side of the ball. -- they have in my opinion the greatest quarterback that's ever played so and that's of a pretty good as are we gave them again having said. All that how discouraging was the performance of the defense in the second half it is the strength of this team and has been very good. And in the second half it could not stop new England's offense at all. Well I think it's a team empowered in on them both the defense has been on the label were not in the position Moran. Heading into the game without the defense of performance that we've had to date. Obviously in the second half to something there you go get tightened up for sure but. You know it in any anyway and and any losses is all Timor ended in. You know that's a game that you know we want to -- we need to get off the field a couple of times and second half it didn't happen. But something we need to build on as we move forward. So the -- error is now in place and you know this is all playing out obviously had a day to day basis I was curious. Have you ever been around in ownership change and I know you're with the Marlins and over -- that the Marlins went through on when you were there have you ever been through an ownership switch. No you know I left. The Marlins right before. When -- ago sold the the team at that time and in came here to buffalo so no it's the first. Time I've been through it. It's been. A very positive. -- transition. Obviously been working closely with them over the last month the resources we've. Put the franchise in the position that it is now you know to get through the cell process but. You know we -- and -- for a better situation as far as the how seamlessly transition has done. Now that the -- coolers are allowed to make decisions and are allowed to be in charge what will the process to be like in terms of you know do you report to them how much will they be involved day to day will they be there when they just want a phone call can you give. The listeners any idea of what life will be like with the new owners. -- -- trying to get -- sea legs under us on that -- -- you know obviously it's just a weekend but they'll -- your constant communication. There's there's you know with them -- and there has been. You know today and will continue to do that and you know over the next few months of the a lot to be determined -- how you know we work through all of that. But. You know both Terry -- be hands on them and I'm looking forward to it it's it's great for our organization is great for community. You mentioned hands on I was wanting -- -- about in terms of management style. What kind of insight could you give a what you're expecting from Terry and -- to go. -- Dan Adams arms on the little wishy -- here but you know being and so I knew I mean I'm just expected them. The unit to keep doing what they're they're doing and and that's great things so you know -- obviously they're going to be involved then. They should be involved. And I really look forward to that. You know it's great in not only for this organization but as I mentioned and it's great for. In our region they've done great things with the sabres. As far as how they you know connected with the community and you know we built a pretty good business platform here. You know over the past decade and a half and I'm looking for them to be to add to that as we move forward into the future. -- I'm in in terms of again what will happen terms of the structure organization. There was a report over the weekend that perhaps the -- are looking to bring in. A football person from outside the organization to oversee things any comment first off on that report on the specifics in that report. Well our I think you know one of things that you and I and then being in this business as long as we've -- -- there's going to be a lot of noise. In the market especially with the transition of a new ownership. You know obviously. Anything they can improve disorganization in the future or we're gonna look at. There is nothing that has been discussed for me or or anyone at this point. Within the organization. But it's not going to be the first pieces. News and sources and you know I was -- sources are people overlook and a position themselves or typically people were out of work. So -- You know continue to do that I'm sure over the next. Few months as soon as the season winds down but. -- said. You know my sole focus. Is it is always been to keep this franchise -- or Western New York. And the mission accomplished. On that front and then the focus is to do anything we can. To help this franchise take it to another level. -- go back the day that you held press conference and said that the the the team's brand had been tarnished and you know you need to go to different -- unity make -- change a coach and a new GM since that time do you view this ownership change and and the the -- potential ownership as a step forward to further her. -- to do more things in that regard to further repair the image of the organization -- the NFL. Yet chairman obviously you know with the owners liked Terry contaminated and going to be you know us a major positive. You are not only for our brand but you know also an NFL circles. Obviously. Like consider what they've done with the sabres and the profile that they've added. There's been tremendous so we look to. Head today here also but you know as I mentioned -- In two in the beginning of 2013. No one of the ways you don't win in this league. Is since 1998 we've had seven head coaches nine offensive coordinators seven defensive coordinators in six general managers. That is not a formula for winning. Continuity is it is. The number one. Variable when it comes to winning in this league and and we need to have that as we move forward. Have you made their point known or will you make that point known at whatever point -- guerrillas start to assess the organization. I've been very open about that our you know I've I've said many times and you know it took me it is an -- -- publicly and privately. You know it's. Yeah that we -- to playoff game since 1998. And and we had too many it's a different schemes and in coaches in. And you're not gonna win in this league by changing every couple years and -- that's that's my belief in my feeling and and and hopefully. You know. As I've mentioned that very pleased with what's happened here you know we want to win more and as we've mentioned but. You know look at where our roster is today and -- world was a couple of years ago where is an excellent job building Europe building our roster. I don't know if it's been asked but at what I'd maybe it will be at some point by the federalists but if they came near -- -- -- -- the president of the bills. What do you need what can we do to help this franchise win a Lombardi trophy what what to tell. -- you -- instability that I know that so what -- tragic is there a wish list you'd have. For them. The other some things obvious and wish list that you know I'd I'd keep private at this point but you know I'm tired I believe in what. Our personnel department led by darker. Are doing. And the roster were -- -- the mentality that he's brought. To this organization to this team. Very pleased. With what they've done. Obviously. You know it's time to take another step. We've talked about that many times and we'll see that'll work so. You know if you look at where this roster was a few years ago. If you look at the trade that door neighbor Jerry Hughes and couple that the -- he's made. -- practice squads like to step by Charles and anti Paul people who have added to this franchise has some the the moves in the draft. You know to get a generational player and Sammy Watkins. My opinion is you know we're on the right track. Do you tells of the organization is at all banning contact with the agent for Jerry Hughes. Record demand that you know right now Jeremy about you know we're well aware who are you affairs are coming up at the end of the year. Does anything change there you maintained. That it was business as usual but now you do have new owners has anything change could -- fast track negotiations now. You know sit with Terry in and -- -- go through you know the thought process and everybody who's up Europe very wise and -- what their game plan would be movement in the future you know don't -- aliens and Jim monus. And the personnel department you know have a game plan you know moving into the future and that will be discussed in the near future. -- -- when you're at the owners' meetings or prior to going into the owners' meetings last week -- -- the guys Jeremy itself brought up the the London game in the Peter King story that buffalo was a prime candidate that the London series come up in discussions at the owners' meeting is -- -- -- can pass along -- But I think. You know power of the international series in general and obviously led by London and you know obviously there's a great success over there. You we will play in London at some point. But nothing came up about playing next year in a prime candidate which used to. General overview of the success -- one answers is that today. How'd they figure out whether you give up or any team gives up a home game or road game to go to London. Well -- you know Jacksonville right now plays. Yeah over the next couple years that they have given up -- home game. Other teams. Are tied in it's basically -- rotational cedars and and in his really determined by the -- so. As soon as I know I'll let you know Berkshire I think you'd be bigger over one and then we go over well that. Yeah Jeremy are gonna go to work Goran Turco Liverpool he can relate -- -- you can relates. -- I don't know I mean I guess that would I guess I can eat fish and chips I don't really know knows how I can relate to people wouldn't do that would that be good now about a huge drinker but I'll find my way to a club I guess I'll do my best mr. Miller and mash bank. Angers and -- that's not a comedy routine or radio show there it's okay breakfasts are right back okay. Russ Brandon Willis on the AT&T hotline Russ thanks good luck on Sunday against the vikings play any etiquette thing going on Sunday if fans need to know about any. Priest festivities or anything about Sunday's game need to know about. Yes certainly obviously Sunday at halftime. -- Miller will be entering the wall offense for you know what I forgot -- in the press box every home game thanks for bringing that up look at. Deservedly so it's going to be a tremendous ceremony for an wonderful man. And someone who's been a huge part of the history of this organization. And we just have club seats left for the vikings games so. Come out and as Terry mentioned. On Sunday bring that energy. On Sunday we're we're gonna need it. How are your ticket sales for the though is -- November games are still left with -- inventory write. Yeah we're in very good shape for a Kansas City and we have some individual game tickets and single game tickets. Available for the jets and Cleveland -- green Bay Area also is just in a club seat. Situation at this point so it jets in Cleveland -- that we have left. I use can you track rests with the with the browns play the way they are. Are you tracking -- can you track concede you expecting more browns fans to buy up tickets. You know it is they are playing pretty well and you know we do have some. Some pretty good friends -- come from Cleveland though when we do play the browns and you know if they keep playing well and in and their game. Is more meaningful as it goes. We anticipate we've seen a nice spike in sales of Cleveland today so. Those are again are the only two games and have outdoor tickets left so. We're looking forward to move in those in and haven't completely sold out season. Rose one more thing for legal last week at some point you would -- it. -- Bennett that Google today that Doug Whaley has had just one draft so he basically. When you said that you're saying that this past draft was way at least first draft running point the guy that pulls the tabs. Yet he noted in my ruled -- arm -- that we've we've talked about this before but here goes back to the old job Butler days. John always used to say that when you pulled the tag. That is short drafted general manager and and that's just the facts. You know obviously don't spend a big part of what we've done here personnel -- the last. Four years but you know that was his first draft it is there is general manager. You know obviously. He's going to be part of every decision that's been made on the football side with the -- but does that. What's his first draft the reason I ask is because that will lead people to suggest. That the pics of buddy nix the final body -- would not be Whaley specs I realize the guys in a work in concert there's lot of scouts people that room. But that will lead to speculation that might EJ Manuel was a buddy knicks' pick and was not a dugway Olympic. No not at all I mean it was a Buffalo Bills -- and India obviously party was in general manager he's -- one -- decisions but. You know of dog was sitting here right now he he was very involved obviously in in every pick that was made during that era. So -- don't know that that should not lead any speculation. On that problem whatsoever. You know and and and this year's draft it was our first draft and Jim monus and Kelvin Fisher and everyone I'm on the -- insider -- part of that is well and and so. You know I know it makes for you know media. Speculation I guess -- if you if you will but. There are very much in -- and very much part of it just like. They've always been and how they approach they're going back to the jumbled there is it's always been a team effort on the personal side. Wants what we have here to answer the Oakland very -- -- and the speculation. And it all up and that's right -- With regard to whether art of that though. Why would knicks beat the guy pulling the tabs just because he was. Still in position had had you known at that time. That it was going to be bodies last draft there was there was already a timeline already laid out in terms of how that whole transition was gonna go down. You know -- an island that speculation to. Absolutely 100% now. When I took over on January 1 of that year in my current role. Body was -- general manager and body had no there was no timeline there was no game plan anything along those lines I anticipated that body would which would continue to be your general manager in the future. After the draft that year. They were going -- blessed or meetings which is the start of the next year's scouting season in body came to me and said you know was time for him. To move into a different role which show caught me off guard and in surprise me from the standpoint of timing. But you obviously we had a dog complacent and that was the game plan when party decided to do that. But no at that time there was no plan and and you know and -- you -- -- is still involved with us. As a senior advisor to -- And and in that that is 100%. Accurate truth that was when it happens like an answer that question -- as well. -- thanks very much for joining us we'll talk -- you next week.
